52 Colours: Papaya Whip

Papaya whip is apparently the colour you get if mashed papayas are blended with whipped cream. It’s an extremely pale orange, for some screen settings it could be near white. For me this spelled either spring dresses or vintage lingerie. Guess which one I picked!

My Miss Papaya Whip turned into virtual cosplay. I knew I wanted period sheer fripperies with a corset, but by the time I was trying on blonde hairs I had a revelation: it was Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius! After I got over the squee-attack, I added steampunk spectacles by *Amaranthus* (old hunt gift) and LoveBug necklace by Maxi Gossamer from Collabor88 to maximize the effect. The extra goggles are by ezura from Steam the Hunt. It’s a well-known fact that you can never have too many goggles!

The necklace is of course a nod toward her trilobite locket, the symbol of House Heterodyne. None of the look is 100% match, but I think for cosplay it gets pretty close. The deliciously scandalous and indecent clothing by Sn@tch is referring to the times she only worked on inventions when sleepwalking and wandered around labs in her undergarments.

The surroundings are Ethercruiser by Urban Forge Virtuatecture. It’s their prize in the current Steam the Hunt and has several floors filled with awesome machinery, library, maps, control room and living space. The gadget she’s holding is from Twisted HuntThe Fatal Familial Insomniac by [ContraptioN]. I must say that I’m not sure if she’s going to cure her own sleepwalking with it or test it on someone else first…

Captain Escargot

In case you haven’t realized yet: it’s Steam time! Steam the Hunt is going on again and you can find the shop slurls, hints and pictures of prizes here. The pocket watch is a prize by *Amaranthus* and is of course normally at the waist, like it should be.

Captain Escargot is named after my favourite prize of this round,  Escargot-a-vapeur by Sextan Shepherd. It’s one of the many prizes in a mini hunt at Joy of Steampunk Museum. This particularly fancy snail-mobile has plenty of living areas inside and is perfect for fashionably eccentric steam captains. If you like steampunk, but don’t have time for the whole hunt, this spot is what I recommend. It’s fun to explore and you can get the hunt gifts while oggling about.

The Time Watcher’s Gear (goggles and pack) is by [ContraptioN] and the Knight of Darkness outfit & hat are by RokumeikaN. The latter is a prize from Twisted Hunt, I just liked them together. Both hunts last for the whole of September, so there’s still plenty of time to cam about.

Now all we have to do is wonder what does a time watcher see through those goggles, while travelling around on a steam snail-mobile…

Aerosteam Adrenaline

I’m sure it’s no surprise that one of my favourite forms of steampunk is the airship piracy one. It combines the dashing romantic piracy with flying and you all know how I love all things related to flying.

The latest release by Dare Designs, Adrenaline, was the perfect uniform for my pirate captain. The rows of buttons and the shoulderpads just called for one. It comes with boots, but I used these overknee lassitude & ennui ones instead. The black snakeskin simply spoke to me.

I doubt the outfit was meant solely for pirates, the hat is my own addition. (Old hunt gift by AZE Designs.)  I just tend to look at things and see characters. This also provided the perfect opportunity to remind everyone that Steam the Hunt ends soon. Just a few more days to pick up, say, this fantastic mini-airship by Bondar-Foehammer Aerosteam Co.

As for the make-do hangar I simply used one of the gorgeous skyboxes by Spessart and made some of the walls and ceiling transparent. For the jewelry I wanted fancy skulls. Donna Flora’s Opera Skull provided the perfect solution. With the accessorizing complete, it’s finally time to fly~

52 Colours: St. Patrick’s Blue

With such a lovely, strong blue I went immediately back to my roots and dove into the Silent Sparrow folder. Miss St. Patrick’s Blue — boy is that a mouthful — turned out to be a mix of period classy with a touch of goth and steampunk. Just the way I like it.

I chose the setting from the numerous steampunk builds you can get from Steam Hunt. This one is a sub-house by Fort Weka. The parasol by Julia Collection is from the hunt as well. I have a definite weakness for parasols, they mix whimsy with class and are always fun.

I swear I’ve worn these Selene-boots by Lassitude & Ennui in every possible colour by now, but I can’t help it. They go with everything! All the things!

I also want to point out the breathtaking clockwork collar by Hebenon Vial. There’s a closing sale going on at the moment, so I’m warmly recommending visiting before it’s too late.

Bang in Blue

…what? I’m talking of Bangladesh DuPree, a chaotic evil incarnate pirate from Girl Genius, one of my favourite comics. Bang is usually wearing a red sweater and white-red sailor outfit, but this version came in blue, so!

The sweater, coat and cap are the Steam Hunt prize by Contraption. I showed them to a friend, who immediately went ‘It’s Bang!’. After I stopped squeeing, I began plotting this photoshoot, because yes, yes it is.

The magnificent ship is the Steam Hunt prize by The Epic Toy Factory, one of the most entertaining places to explore and hunt in ever. I warmly recommend visiting even if you weren’t interested in hunting.

I completed the pirate look with white pants from Somnia and the Wanderlust boots from Lassitude & Ennui. I even found the perfect skull bindi tattoo from the Marketplace! It’s important to look good when you run around doing horribly violent things on a whim, after all.

Nemo

I had this song stuck in my head through the whole photoshoot. I doubt the character I put together is Nemo, not even in opposite-verse, so she must be the friend. Regardless of the name it’s obvious she is a captain as well.

The main features in this post are from Steam the Hunt, going on at the moment. Steam tends to showcase creative gadgets, vehicles and builds and this spring was no exception. One of the biggest and most breathtaking steam constructions was this Architeuthis Mechanica by Urban Forge Virtuatecture. I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a giant mechano squid?

The outfit and the cap are by Unzipped, one of the rare awesome steampunk clothiers. (There’s a captain’s outfit for guys too, go fetch!) I added the Wanderlust boots by Lassitude & Ennui to the look since they really did scream steampunk to me. They’re at the moment available in March Mesh Madness.

~Captain Nemo went away (Love me when I’m gone)
Left me all alone, Nemo’s going home~

The Phoenix of Steam

Just a few more things from Steam Hunt still! It’s literally the last days of the hunt, many hunts, so if you haven’t yet picked up your favorites, now is definitely the time.

Since I grew up reading Marvel comics, I really couldn’t resist this steampunk-version of Phoenix by 22769 Casual Couture. It’s stunning, it’s fun, it plays with not only one fandom, but two. Much love. Mind you, the wings are by Top Katz and not a part of the outfit, I added them to the look since I was seriously lacking telekinetic phoenix-fire wing effects. Alas. The shiny pocket watch is by Amaranthus. Boots are by Addictia and not a part of the hunt.

I also had to photoshop these more than I usually do to remove hair glitching through her body, but I was so in love with this particular hair + cap combo by Red Queen (not a part of the hunt) that I was willing to compromise in photoshop. If the hair had been mod, I would’ve moved the locks around, but no can do. My apologies if the textures are flatter than they should be around her midriff and belt. As is obvious, I also used poster edges filter to aim for a more comic book look.

I also absolutely had to show this off: coffee-to-go pack by MadPea! Surely this is the source of all superpowers! The goggles on the cap are by MadPea as well, one of their bonus prizes. Pictures are taken in the Proteus Underwater House by Arkigrafx. Skin by League, eyes by Poetic Colors, lashes by Redgrave, eyeliner by P.ArT, the golden mask by Evie’s Closet and all the poses by Niqotine Poses, none of which are a part of the hunt.

Oh, and guys? 22769 Casual Couture has a Cyclops outfit for you to go with the steamy Phoenix~

Steam Theater

Today I realized that September is ticking away day by day and I had barely posted anything about the Steam Hunt! Shame on me. So here’s more of my favorites~

Shh, don’t disturb them, they’re just about to start… The shushing pose is by TeaSoup, the tesla coil jewelry by Star Kindler and the mister mechano guy shoulder pet is by Grim Bros. The fancy hat is by Suki’s Silken Fashions. I used my default League-skin, Poetic Colors eyes and Redgrave lashes for this, and picked one of the Sky Everett hairs for the look.

My roos are watching movies! The film of the evening is obviously The Life and Works of the Great Roodini, what else? The projector is a part of the Steam loots from the Epic Toy Factory, everything else in the background in both pictures is a part of  Steam in the Park by Moxie. This dress by Orquidea is my favorite clothing item from the whole hunt and I’m not even a fan of brown! It’s just so exquisitely made, much love. The pose is by Olive Juice and the belt with a scope on Pihlaja is actually an arm belt for humans by Cogoo. I felt that since she was operating the projector, she needed gadgetry and tools. Let’s hope they’ll never find out about popcorn…

The Secret of the Sun Dial

I haven’t yet blogged much about the Steam Hunt, but today I’ll start by presenting what is probably my favorite thing from the whole hunt: Dr. Calgori’s Solarium by Malfean Visions. Not only is it awesome in its own right, it’s also an Abney Park reference! Thousand bonus points for that! The sun dial made me curious…

I’d also like to mention that LeeZu is having an End of Summer Sale on Marketplace alone. It was going on still when I tested it just now, but it might end any moment, so hurry! I yoinked the shirt and the pants from it and added older LeeZu tights to the look. So much casual-couture black makes me happy. The black-and-gold pumps are by Grim Bros., they just worked so well with all the lace, frills and ruffles. The curious pose is by Diesel Works.

Here I am recruiting help in mystery-solving… meeroos are apparently really good at these things! Skin is by League and the hair is one of the old Lamb freebies, worked perfectly for my urge to have something updo-ish with an edge while showing off earrings. Specific hair-needs can be very specific. Meeroo paw-up pose by Olive Juice.

The secret was absolutely squeesome. The little bunny doll pair is actually a part of a book by Naminoke. They tumble about on the pages and end up sitting like that. The cuteness is lethal, I assure you. The gorgeous golden almost lace-like jewelry set is the latest subscribo-gift by .( bewildebeest ). and I simply had to match the eye make-up to that. The eyeliners by Chelle, the golden crystals by White Widow, prim lashes by Redgrave and eyes by Poetic Colors (the latest freebie).  Squee-pose by Niqotine Poses.

Disclaimer: There really isn’t any secret to the sun dial and the bunny doll book has nothing to do with the solarium, they just went well together in my mind~

So Steamy~

As usual, after I train my caming skills to extreme with Twisted, I assault Steam Hunt. They’re always during the same months, after all. Steam Hunts are mostly about furniture, gadgets, strange machinations and textures with some top hats tossed into the mix, but this round there were some excellent clothing choices as well! I used Sky Everett’s hairs in all the pictures as well as lovely golden eyes from Poetic Colors. Skins changed, but none of these were a part of the hunt.

Here’s a random noble lady, concerned over something, perchance a theft of something valuable. The matter disturbed her so greatly that she forgot her after-masquarade bath for the moment.

That half-mask with the elegant face piercing made me squee. It’s by Orquidea and absolutely breathtaking. The outfit is by Rag Dollz and matching gold-painted skin by Imabee. She’s sitting on a steampunk throne by Julia Collection while the bathtub by Damned Good Design is momentarily forgotten in the background. The holdable mask (a part of the outfit) lies on the edge of the bath. All the pictures except the last were taken in a steampunk loft by D&M Dream Furniture.

Perhaps this has something to do with her worries: an airship pirate obviously feeling way too smug for being innocent. Of anything. She’s been up to no good, that’s clear.

The whole outfit is by Dare Designs and perfect for daring pirate girls. It comes with a skirt option, but those just get in the way! The crates she’s sitting on are a part of a fun celebratory prop combination from Lemons & Cream, it came complete with champagne and a booty chest! In the background you can see a work table by E&D Engineering and outlander’s sideboard with accessories by Noctis. Skin is by Nightshade.

The pirate girl has reason to celebrate because she’s hidden her loot so cleverly that even the best detective in town has been driven to drink. Or at least to consider one, while fiddling with her trusted gun on the table.

This outfit is beyond awesome. I love Wretched Dollies as is, but when they turn into western steampunk complete with guns, it’s time to break out that champagne! The goggles are by Grim Bros, the hat is by The Mad Hattery and the skin one of the latest group gifts by Mynerva. The table with everything on it is a part of POST’s metropol set and there’s a fainting couch by The Naughty Victorian on the background. The sketches on the wall are a part of the loft.

Now, where did the pirate girl hide the treasure? In the magical gear forest guarded by steampunk fairies of course! …of course there are such things, stop looking at me like that. If there weren’t, there wouldn’t have been several pairs of wings as prizes, nor magical plants, flowers and awesome things as well!

See? A steampunk fairy! Wings by Wildz Creations and dress by Ezura. The skin was a 50L Friday purchase from The Plastik a while ago and I felt that the curliques on it worked with the wings~ Trees and shiny things on the background are by The Epic Toy Factory and I warmly recommend visiting them to see all the nifty things. It was impossible to capture the entertainment of teaching daisies to dance or hopping up and down on shrooms or wandering in the magical airship where the prize was hidden, you have to go and see for yourself! I set my own little magical gear garden in the conservatory by Primwynly.

I feel like I cut the story into a cliffhanger. Who knows, maybe I’ll make a colour-post about what it was that the pirate girl stole… one of these days. We’ll see~
