Iridescent Roots

They truly are. The colours are vivid, alive and seem to shift within the shape the longer you stare. I am talking about the new skin release by Fallen Gods Inc. called Roots.

The name is an obvious nod toward the wood styled texture, but with colours like this it is no part of any common tree! I was tempted to go full out dryad again, but I’ve been doing that too much lately, so instead I felt drawn to an alien of sorts… perhaps trapped in a tomb on some strange planet, encountered by explorers.

I wanted her eyes to stand out, so I used one of Repulse’s Mystic Eyes, but then added glow prims by Adoness on top of them. The hair by [CIRCA] is an old hunt gift from Crazy Hair Hunt and I was really surprised about how well its colours matched the skin while still keeping a strange alien nature vibe.

So she has a near-coral hair of occasional fish-in-a-bubble with a radiant wooden body: obviously she encompasses all the natural elements within her. Who knows why she was locked up in this tomb by Garden of Dreams, but guess whoever opens the door shall soon find out…

Promenade Blues

It’s actually my favourite colour, even when I use black most of the time. Proper indigo or cobalt blue, none of those vague pastel things. Here showing off Promenade-dress by Geometry Clothing, available in Vintage Fair. The adorable flowers on top and waist are separate attachments, so you can choose if you want both, none at all or just one.

The Shirley-hair with optional bangs and an extremely fifties ponytail by *Alice Project* and the soft-toned Leena-skin by Bilo are also both in the fair. I had to add some makeup to change pink lips to red (you know me and pink), but they formed such a vintagey poster effect together that I couldn’t resist and went to Artilleri for the pictures.

I got the Aster-jewelry by {me.} while I was shopping at the fair to complete the look and then wandered to the beach in search of a matching life guard. Alas, no such luck. Guess one needs a swim suit to lure them out, maybe next time!

Steam for Five Hundred

There’s another 500L Avatar Challenge going on and they are always so much fun that I had to poke at it. The idea is to make a new avatar under 500L, everything used must be available and accessible now, so you cannot use old hunt prizes and such. The last time I made a sorceress, a goth and a rocker, so this time I focused on steampunk. I like doing something out of the norm casuals for these challenges, because roleplayers need shopping guides, too! The clothes and goggles took most of the budget, but they were so worth it. The pants and the jacket can be found in League’s discount area upstairs and the goggles are by Grim Bros., because you can’t talk about SL steampunk and not mention them. The jewelry by KOSH was just 2L altogether (from their discount basement) and the hair (Exile), shoes (lassitude & ennui) and the lipstick (M.O.C.K. Cosmetics) are freebies. The skin is a group gift by bilo (50L to join the group) and I used it for both characters. The other girl being a more doll-styled gaslight romance heroine. The dress is an old Steam Hunt gift by Orquidea, but fortunately it’s for sale in the shop and thus still available. I love all their hunt gifts, it’s a delightful store. The cutesy ribboned pigtails are a group gift by Lo*momo (group free to join) and I got tattoo lashes by *BOOM* for 25L to add to the skin’s makeup. Eyes are from KOSH’s discount room, just 1L. Speaking of lassitude & ennui, there’s plenty of wonderful footware perfect for steampunk when you’re not trying to build a whole avatar with 500L. These Miss Dandy shoes were very affordable on the Marketplace, though, so both my girls wear Jackal’s things! The stockings are a freebie by *Sheer*. I picked the poses from my regular HUDs, so no guarantees about their prices. The location is of course New Babbage, an excellent stop for a newbie steam personage.

Crimson Wyrm

I’m sure I don’t have to go into details about why people are so fascinated by dragons, but I did want to mention that one of my favourite dragon versions has always been those who can assume a human form. A human with a dragon’s nature just seems such an intriguing concept. Strength, power, arrogance, greed, vanity, intelligence, experience, cunning… and for this particular shoot, an apple.

The crimson beauty is one of Nomine‘s new limited editions: the wedding gowns in darker colours. I had already forced Sonya (in disguise) through one wedding shoot, so instead I just went and indulged in the glorious gothic wickedness these gowns can provide. If you are so inclined. Obviously they also work perfectly as wedding gowns as well. (You can always turn the groom into a frog and ditch him out the window to grab the kingdom.)

I confess that I went originally for just an evil sorceress look, but since I ended up in Isle of Wyrms to take pictures, the next step in character attitude was obvious. I walked around the cathedral and then fell into a hole. No, there was no white rabbit. Unfortunately. There was, however, a puzzle room! …yes, I had to solve all the puzzles. Yes, I wandered around in underground tunnels for ages, just exploring. So much fun!

There was plenty of water in the tunnels, so I figured the gown got too heavy for her and the hairdo stopped screaming defiance to the skies. Of course I had to show off the lingerie that comes with the gown, although I changed between sets and instead of crimson went for orchid. I am claiming this as a manifestation of her inner dragonfire simmering lower in the cold, yes. Nothing to do with just liking the purple fripperies more!

The gowns were released today, there’s six colours and 12 gowns per colour. They are for sale until the new limited edition outfit comes out or they are all bought, so go get yours today!

Cake

Let them eat it. What? What else was I going to say when wearing Marie Antoinette gown by Avatar Bizarre. The decadently pink (it’s the colour of evil, I tell you!) delicacy representing cake was absolutely perfect contrast to the gothic glamour now available in the World Goth Fair.

 The choker by Pop Tart & Urban Assault is from the fair as well, as is the makeup by Pin Me Down. The heart lip marking just seemed an equal amounts of crazy and cutesy to work for dark Marie Antoinette.

The surrounding cloisters are by *~ by Nacht, a part of their fair offerings: it is obviously meant to go together with the abbey and crypt that they also have available at the fair. Gorgeous, realistic gothness that steers away from the cliches, but stays firmly in the dark, regardless.

A Dolly Goes to the Fair

The World Goth Fair is almost here! The doors to the dark brilliance open on May 15th, but this little dolly snuck in early to play.

The dolly is wearing a dress, skin and eyes by The Little Bat. The skin is one of the fair exclusives and there are several colours of the dress available. There’s something very doll-like in the dresses — maybe it’s the silhouette, maybe the buttons, but I had no doubt in my mind that the character was one.

The Poisonous Friend jewelry set by House of Rain is absolutely gorgeous design in handily modifiable mesh, sure to fit even the petites! The extra eye liner is by Pin Me Down and their conveniently spider-matching lip squiggle can be found in the gatchas — if you’re lucky.

With just a few days left before the shopping can truly begin, there’s nothing else left to do for the dolly than to play with the ferris wheel, whee~ That said, I warmly recommend walking around and checking out the dark circus spreading out on two sims when you can. A definite moodsetter.

Keep Calm and…

…Keep Shopping! It’s a new event starting on 14th May. It’ll feature and concentrate on event exclusives, which piqued my interest.  We all love exclusives, after all.

The crown on these panties by ~Songbird~ randomly reminded me of Sweden, so I styled the shopping girl with blonde hair. I know, I know, feel free to faint now. The skin by EgoxentriKax was so tanned that it made me realize that the Swedes are really the Californians of the north. (Shyntae, if you see this: please don’t kill me!)

52 Colours: Deep Pink

I’m sure you know how I generally feel about pink. Abomination unto the gods of colour, yesyes. My inventory is rather void of it unless it’s over the board silly on purpose. Thus to avoid posing in lingerie with a cake on my head — again — I turned to Maya of Many Colours and allowed my Miss Deep Pink to be fabulous in a bold, summery sari.

These new mesh saris by bilo are called Chandramukhi, which means ‘moon face’. Miss Deep Pink posed in sunlight, though, just to flaunt the radiant colours. Sonya’s usual skins tend to be gothic pale, but fortunately YS&YS has this Cara-skin in the Dressing Room at the moment. Adding the new Wasabi Pills hair (available in Culture Shock) to it turned the whole look randomly into Jungle Book, I just failed to find Bagheera.

I took the pictures in bilo’s yard, so fittingly full of pretty Indian things and pink flowers. Speaking of, the splashes of colour in the picture above are caused by the flowers and the angle, I didn’t do any post-processing on it, the crazy amount of colours just amused me greatly.  Feel free to admire the Lost Eden bangles by Maxi Gossamer while oggling at the flowers, though.

The saris come in layers: the skirt and the covering dupatta are mesh, the choli (top) is a system layer. You can wear all three or leave the dupatta away for a lighter look. The skirts and tops are also sold separately, but come automatically with a sari if you buy the whole thing. Now the only thing is missing is an elephant…
