This Is Halloween

I was just listening to it and since the official wonderful excuse to blame all the costumes on it is soon gone, I wanted to use it. I also wanted to make Halloween looks that are less costumeish and more approaching fashion. For this purpose I went to Zibska, because Zib’s creations always dance within the borders of couture and eccentric, perfect to either style up to avant garde or in this case: turn to Halloween.

Aliwera has a mesh skirt and extreme middle and head attachments, curving in gothic spikes that you could style for a spider queen, but I went more into basic classic noir glamour with it.

Ariane turned into a bone dancer, but it could be styled into a period dress or kawaii lolita look effortlessly. I simply could not resist Nuuna’s skeleton skin, so perfect for Halloween. If you leave the dress away, you have a PG skeleton skin to run around in.

Felicienne turned into a fashionable jester. Add an axe for Halloween parties and you’re set! The best part about shopping fashion for costumes is that you have outfits you can use all around the year, it’s simply a matter of how you style them.

Iridescent Roots

They truly are. The colours are vivid, alive and seem to shift within the shape the longer you stare. I am talking about the new skin release by Fallen Gods Inc. called Roots.

The name is an obvious nod toward the wood styled texture, but with colours like this it is no part of any common tree! I was tempted to go full out dryad again, but I’ve been doing that too much lately, so instead I felt drawn to an alien of sorts… perhaps trapped in a tomb on some strange planet, encountered by explorers.

I wanted her eyes to stand out, so I used one of Repulse’s Mystic Eyes, but then added glow prims by Adoness on top of them. The hair by [CIRCA] is an old hunt gift from Crazy Hair Hunt and I was really surprised about how well its colours matched the skin while still keeping a strange alien nature vibe.

So she has a near-coral hair of occasional fish-in-a-bubble with a radiant wooden body: obviously she encompasses all the natural elements within her. Who knows why she was locked up in this tomb by Garden of Dreams, but guess whoever opens the door shall soon find out…

Zodiac: Virgo

There’s another round of the Zodiac event going on, this month obviously themed around Virgo. I am highly partial to these logical, analytical and practical people. They make sense. They communicate in ways I can understand, exchanging facts and information back and forth in an organized, interested manner.

If you want to imagine nutshell stereotypes for them, there’s librarians, archivists, secretaries, scientists, I’d even put detectives in here. They have highly analytical minds, perseverance nearing stubbornness and great attention to detail. If you want a job done in a professional, organized, thorough manner, you call a Virgo.

All this logic and using their brains for detail analysis does have a side effect of being somewhat oblivious to feelings, including their own. There’s so much more interesting things distracting them in the world that introspection doesn’t occur to them and over-emotional people feel like a headache. Combined with the Virgo trait of perfectionism this usually heralds some problems in romantic relationships.

As friends Virgos are reliable, kind and helpful. They prefer to show their friendship with actual deeds instead of words, practicality over emotions. If you like logic and rationality, if you like it when things make sense, there’s no better people to hang out with than Virgos. Being down to earth yields a bountiful harvest of results, after all.

I had to dress my Virgo girl in a practical manner and set her in a library, there was no way around it. The skin by Essences, the satchel by Casa del Shai and the clock by Conspiracy Theory are all from the Zodiac event. The shirt that is practical while dancing at the edge of quirky is by *Perception* and the boots that several of my Virgo friends love to bits are by lassitude & ennui. Luck in Depths

Depth is a new skin by Fallen Gods Inc. and it’s currently in the fortune teller, available for free if you get lucky enough to find your perfect match. There’s usually a crowd during the first days so it should not be too difficult to find one and if folks are flittering elsewhere, a polite inquiry in the group usually brings back plenty of helpful fallens.

Depth is a skin for the creatures of the deep seas or space, the ones you spot only in the corner of your eye before they meld against the dark again. The skin flows between perfect camouflage and iridescent beauty, a part of the dark skies until she blinks her eyes open and glides away.

I set this particular deep space inhabitant indoors of the Space Cave by Garden of Dreams, just to show the dark silhouette and how the blue stands out like glimpses of stars against the sky within. If you ever wanted to swim between stars this is the look to do so in. The prize has skins for both genders and it’s in the fortune teller until 16th September, so go try your luck in Selidor!

Nephilim

Often cast into the role of fallen angels or demons, the older interpretations of nephilim actually refer to them as the children of angels and mortal women, possibly giants. These days the word is fair game for any fantasy setting that needs a fancier word for their demons than well, demons. It is also the name of the latest skin line by Nomine. I should say final normal line, since Munchflower has stated that after this (and the upcoming similar men’s line) it will be fantasy skins, clothing and accessories all the way!

Nephilim is designed for all the pale daughters of the night, ranging from pure white to very light human skin tone. No, there’s nothing wrong with your eyes, I did make a patchwork picture. All the separated parts have a different skintone, the darkest in the bottom right corner, the palest one at the top.

The various skins come with a nude skin version as well, in case you want to play with other makeups. There’s also tattoo layers for more and less cleavage, but I didn’t use either in these. You can see more makeup options here or by simply going to Nomine and trying on all the demos!

See, this is what happens when you force nocturnal beings into the — hiss — sunlight! They wilt until sundown, at which point they will be furious. Don’t make the same mistake! I took the bullet just to show a couple of the skins in a clearer light. The closeups are the two darkest tones in an evening light, the last picture is the two paler ones in daylight and the most white one — the face of the patchwork picture — is taken comfortably in the night. Just like they should be.

Ameno Dori Me

The song was stuck in my head the moment I saw Nomine‘s new release, Ameno. I went looking for a translation and found several, what with it being pseudo-Latin, not the real thing. Thus I’m not even trying to guess what they meant with it, but it’s still beautiful. As for the gown, it’s the last one in the series of Munchflower’s limited fantasy gowns and it is gorgeous.

I am absolutely in love with the horns and the headdress, perfect for medieval fantasy royalty especially of slightly more wicked nature. The pearls are a mix of The Muses (shorter necklace and the earrings) and Maxi Gossamer (the hoard of necklaces mixed together).

I went to the World’s End Garden for the pictures, it’s my go-to for gothic beauty. Doesn’t matter if you’re wading in the waters with a huge train, pixel gowns don’t get wet. This skirt is the version without the train, so you can imagine just how big the longer version is.

I’m sure you all know by now that the gowns come complete with lingerie sets of breathtaking lace texturing. I changed from Noir set to Apple both for fun and to match the fripperies with the greenery. Lighter clothing or not, the head dress stays!

52 Colours: Pistachio

Miss Pistachio was super fun to do! All thanks goes to Nicole Twigvald of Smileyorc fame, who sent her friends random orc skins with ‘Be an orc!’ message. So now I am! I can’t pull off her effortless elegance in a green skin, but I refused to go to stereotypical loincloth + bones category, either. Therefore Miss Pistachio is a post-apocalyptic skater orc!

The skater outfit is an old hunt gift by +DV8+. I’ve been meaning to bring up the fact that they are having a closing sale for a while now, and this was the perfect time for it. Truly post-apocalyptic, an end of an era, all that stuff.

The vehicle by Michigan’s Shack, hair by Discord Designs, eyes by Mayfly and lashes by Miamai are all from the Mesh Around hunt. Slurls, hints and preview pictures can be found here. The mesh seelie ears by *~*Illusions*~* are probably more meant for elves, but post-apocalyptic orcs can have as big-and-pretty ears as they want, says I.

Most other things are old subscribo gifts like the jewelry by Finesmith, old hunt gifts like the body tattoo by YaYo or old hunt props like the crowbar from ^Re.Birth^. I think the baseball bat with poses by Diesel Works is still out as a freebie, though. She had to have one, some sophistication in clubbing, see!

52 Colours: Cobalt

Mmm, blues. Especially strong, dark blues like this cobalt. It’s really my favourite colour, you know. Except for black, of course. I was first contemplating something completely different for Miss Cobalt, but then I realized I had pretty much done that exact thing for St. Patrick’s Blue, so I went into a completely different direction.

Before I get into the look, I must mention the sim. I found it through the good old search, it’s called AeonFlux and it’s a SWTOR roleplay sim. It is also ridiculously gorgeous and well-made. I could have been taking pictures worth a dozen posts there. Recommending very warmly.

The hair is completely unedited, it’s genuinely that tone. Thank you, lamb! It was challenging to find cobalt hair, so extra kudos for making wild colours! The makeup is by Pin Me Down from World Goth Fair. I’ve been wanting to use it all this while, but it just spoke more of scifi than goth to me, so now I finally got to it!

The outfit and the shoes are by *Gallactic*, these days available only in the Marketplace. The cyber heart is by Necronom and the skin by Glam Affair. And yes, that taxi type of vehicle is about to drive over Miss Cobalt. Photobombed by a vehicle, of all things. Fortunately it really drives -over- and not into. For the passenger safety, I mean. I’m sure Miss Cobalt would easily either get away or destroy the whole thing, after all…

Three Lokis…

…walk into a bar. What? I didn’t actually finish the joke, was too busy taking pictures of Ely, Orcsy and me as various Loki-versions. We look like a pride of valkyries. Or possibly a fantasy metal band. I can’t decide.

The Loki-gowns are a new limited edition release from Nomine. There’ll be 12 copies of each colour (six colours in total, we’re showing three of them) available until the next gown comes out.

The gowns have several ways to wear them, from a more superhero body suit to slightly more armored corsetted version to full lingerie look. There’s three helms, epic capes, staff, bracers, boots, tattoos, elf ears, hairs, even skin and eyes — although the three of us avoided the clone effect and wore our own.

We hopped — wait, valkyries — FLEW to Ely’s sim to take pictures together, so  the prettiness around is all hers. Also, it’s important to be able to kill with your heels as Loki Cobalt here shows. Unexpected weaponry is the best kind!

This is probably my favourite one of all the pics I took. It looks like it’s in the middle of a conversation. I wonder what we’re talking about. Winged horse training? Favourite mead in Valhalla? Who gets first dibs on the next handsome hero to fall?

Thief of Time

Fashion for Life has started and this year the sims are themed around time. I got a giggle out of finding Finnish aika amongst them, although the event itself is of course very serious. I’m sure you all know about the old Relay for Life events, benefitting American Cancer Society. This is them, just rebranded. In the spirit of time and finding the cure, I give you a thief of time: stealing it for those who need it most.

The latex Scorch outfit by Dare Designs makes the perfect look for a superhero fighting cancer. The precious time in her hands is actually a ring from the “It’s Time” set by Tres Beau.

As for the arcane portal she uses to travel through space and time, it’s the Twisted Hunt prize by Snow Bound. It comes with smaller portals and instructions how to link them together to use it all as actual portal system in your home sim.

While she works to give people more time it’s up to others to find the cure. Go shop. It’s definitely worth it.
