52 Colours: Astronaut Blue

The name of the colour really made this obvious: space girl look was inevitable for Miss Astronaut Blue. Granted, I don’t think our current space programs accept latex suits as astronaut gear, but that’s what imagination is for!

The shiny blue layers are by Sn@tch and I combined the prim parts of a cyber suit by VC Designs to it for extra spikiness. Sadly VC Designs has closed by now, but fortunately there’s still plenty of latexy goodness in Sn@tch!

The skin is one of the old hunt gifts by Mynerva, her drow skins are absolutely to-die-for gorgeous. The eyes are by Repulse, my go-to eye designer for when I want black-based eyes.

The location is the Vega Station, perfect for wandering around and gazing into space. Before leaving Miss Astronaut Blue to her exploration and wandering, I want to ask if anyone has any news about a hair shop called Mirror, previously also called Alpha and Paradox? This is from there and it’s always been my favourite scifi hair shop, but now I can’t find it anywhere… Sadness.

52 Colours: Unmellow Yellow

This is one of those rare weeks where I struggled so much with both the look and the pictures that when everything finally clicked together for one picture, the others were so inferior in comparison that I cannot bare to have them accompany the good one. Just one picture for Miss Unmellow Yellow, who turned to be a sun fairy.

I found the colour matching fairy outfit from *Deviance* and the exotic alien plant is the latest group gift by the Booshies. This plant is scriptless and simply decorative, but apparently the real ones will grow food for the booshies to eat. Perfect for fairies to flitter around!

The Magic of Noms

Fair warning: do not go to Jungle Bungle if you’re feeling peckish. There’s chocolate lake and paths of candy drops and all sort of noms everywhere!

However, if you do end up there you can find this Chocolate Delight dress by Simply Fae in there! What better way to wander through candyland than dressed in chocolate, hmm?

I decorated the nomness with a celtic heart necklace by T R I D E N T Jewelry and chocolate matching Hawk2-hair by Wasabi Pills. The necklace can be found in Shadow’s Claw and the hair in The Tides. The extra noms I excavated from my inventory and they are most likely old hunt gifts, but they felt so very appropriate for this that I couldn’t resist the sweetness.

Outside Whose Norm, Exactly?

I spotted this challenge in Plurk and first it made me cheer, then it made me confused.

“I was thinking that it would be a fun challenge for you to do something out of the norm for a day. Do something that is uncharacteristically you! Try sci-fi, steampunk, grunge, burlesque, etc. Step outside your comfort zone and show us what you can do!” – Adorkable Peapod

I’m all for seeing everyone doing sci-fi and steampunk and burlesque and and… waitaminute, I blog those things all the time! Obviously I can’t do those for this challenge if it’s what I mostly do. So, after  a moment of pondering I realized I will have to blog casuals. Not just Sonya’s usual hang-out clothes which are sort of… near-vintage with a dash of couture, but like… jeans, tee-shirts, hoodies, shoes without heels! End of the world as we know it!

To complete the opposite factor, I took the pictures in a studio instead of in the world. Without props. I had to do -something- besides just stand there, though, so I played with projectors for fun extra shadows! I couldn’t bring myself to spend lindens for this, but fortunately I’m half-hamster and I had enough stuff in my inventory. I had to try and add something of my own taste into it, so tadah: bunny and coffee!

Most of the things are either not available anymore or old hunt gifts, but do take note of the skin. It’s the latest group gift by Mynerva, and it’s absolutely adorable. (I felt like I was borging Ely, though. Clone all the friends!) The format of the lower picture is one of my favourite versions to -read- when I’m browsing fashion blogs. I blog for the joy of character creation and the challenge of story-and-mood-expressing pictures myself, but for the actual shopping ‘lookit-awesome-new-things-on-grid’ blogs this is awesome. Shows the details. My most favourite version is of course the pictures that blur the line between screenshot and art and promise a story, but if we all blogged the same way, the feeds would be very dull. Hurray for personality differences!

After this challenge I can really tip my invisible hat to all those people who shoot in studio and still make pictures interesting. It’s truly a challenge!

52 Colours: Coral

Coral obviously cried for a mermaid. Unfortunately I had done one in nearish tones not long ago and didn’t want to repeat myself, so I went completely another way. The new Miss Coral went searching for corals, but found flamingos instead!

After frantic searching in my inventory, I ended up wearing this gorgeous dress by Broken Doll. It’s an old hunt gift that I just had to keep, despite its very non-sonya-colour. Once I was wearing it, I knew Miss Coral would end up being all sweet and innocent and just slightly curious. She would also end up wading in the sea barefooted, searching for corals. The fitting location was found after plenty of beach and reef check-ups, this is in Las Lagunas.

I was very amused by the matching flamingos, so I played with them a lot. The cute-but-curious look of Miss Coral was achieved with a skin and eyebrow tattoo by ^Re.Birth^, Poetic Colors eyes, Miamai’s tattoo lashes, lip gloss by M.O.C.K. Cosmetics and slight touch of eyeliner by Mynerva. The gorgeous flowers in the Elikatira hair are by LaGyo, the rings are by .( bewildebeest ). and all the poses are by aDORKable Poses.

Perhaps after Miss Coral gives up on the wading, she’ll retire back to the porch of a seaside manor to sip some ice tea… but for now she is modestly, amusingly wild and willful. Searching for corals, of all things!

52 Colours: Brick Red

Another brick-related red, this time almost pink in tone. On my screen, at least. I felt particularly uninspired by it, I must say, so I tried to at least find a nifty bricksy place to take pictures in. This was no mean feat since I don’t actually save landmarks with ‘awesome brick build!’ comments. *coughs* However, I did succeed and find a pretty shopping sim with brick buildings! The Nest is a gorgeous wander-and-shop area with plenty of awesome furniture shops, sort of a joint effort on their part to have them all in the same place.

The only piece of garment with the right tones that I had was a mini dress by Acid & Mala. Miss Brick Red refused to wear the dress though and told me she was a pants-wearing girl, so I turned the dress into a top instead. I matched the hair to the boots for a darker tone to frame the top — boots from a pirate outfit by Little Heaven, the hair by Waka & Yuki. Pose by Olive Juice.

I used a skin by Ploom and played with tattoo layers for make-up: Mynerva eyeliner & shadow, Miamai lashes, Esk-Imo lipstick. Bright bangle by LaGyo, red eyes and black pants both by The Plastik. Now that Miss Brick Red is facing us, we can witness one of the not-so-nice side effects of shadows. What without shadows is a perfectly even sharp bangs turns into a notched look like your hairdresser had a vendetta against you. I was despairing about this, I assure you. In the end I decided I liked the hair so much that even that wouldn’t stop me wearing it for this and that actually it gave Miss Brick Red more edge and character. *nods*

The wonderful Bubbles-ring is by .( bewildebeest ). – I love big rings in SL. Too often small jewelry — no matter how delicately made in greatest detail simply goes unnoticed or even unrezed. Rather wear one or two big pieces that show! The cascade-earrings are Coyo’s handiwork as well, all of them review copy gifties~ <3 The tattoo that is peeking from beneath the top is by Re.Birth, a part of an old hunt gift look.

Now if I could get Miss Brick Red away from the swings and playgrounds I might actually get some furniture shopping done…

52 Colours: Jazzberry

Another colour I had never even heard of! Sort of like raspberry, but obviously much more silly. I decided to embrace the silliness and so Miss Jazzberry went to a fair~

The hair with hat and wonderful colour-change script is from Waka & Yuki’s retirement sale. It was pretty much the beginning point for the look. I added eyes and freckles by The Plastik and a skin and lipstick by Curio, the tone was just so fitting. The eye make-up is by Mynerva and the Io earrings are by .( bewildebeest )., another pick from the loot pile Coyo tossed my way. <3

The top that matched perfectly with the hair is by Sn@tch, the pants are by KOSH and the deliciously colourful boots by Lassitude & Ennui, from Cupcake War Hunt. The adorable bunny tattoo sleeves are by Katat0nik.

The cupcake balloon is by Sanu and the poses in order are by LAP, Poise and this last one was a part of the lighthouse where Miss Jazzberry admired the fair. Where was the said fair, you ask? On The Pier, which I located with the magical skills of typing ‘carnival’ into Search and hopping over.

Everyone needs a day dedicated to silliness and cotton candy, we should all follow Miss Jazzberry’s example and enjoy some~

Pirate’s Greed

I’ve been feeling all summer-lazy and meeroo-snuggly lately and even managed to wage war versus inventory to get it under some semblance of order. I cleared all the old stuff from my sort-folder and left only things that I knew I’d wanna blog there, waiting for both inspiration and the missing pieces to complete a look. When the inspiration arrived it certainly made me giggle. It also made me combine Skull-n-Bones Hunt and Greedy Hunt. Even when one is about the pirates and the other is about noms.

Here’s some delicious loots! Donut necklace by Virtual Insanity, sammich mouthie by Atypical and the telltale marks of pillaging in the form of whipped cream and berries on her nose by Sweet Leonard & Needful Things. All of that and the eyes by Shiva are from Greedy Hunt. Hair is the LeLutka freebie from Hair Fair and although I don’t usually much like curls on Sonya, this was just so… crazy-wild-cute that it worked for the nom-raiding pirate girl. The flirty pose by .ploom. is also a Hair Fair freebie. Skin by League, lashes by Redgrave, make-up by Mynerva.

The coat is the latest group gift by S H I N E, but obviously the real stars of the picture are the socks by KOSH (retiring items sent through their subscribo) and the shoes by R2 Fashion (old hunt gift). The old barrel home in the background is by United InshCon and the rest of the furniture is by Dreamscapes Art Gallery. Those and the awesome pirate hat by LNL are from the Skull-n-Bones Hunt. If you view the pictures in full size, you might catch a glimpse of the earrings by Zaara and ring by Bewildebeest, too. Can’t have a pirate girl without jewelry, after all~

Darker Streak

Anna was a quiet girl
who through eyelashes
watched the world.

and though she appeared
to be quite meek,
inside she harboured
a darker streak.

If you haven’t yet visited Anna’s Many Murders by Bryn Oh, please do. You’ll do yourself a favor and if you don’t, you’ll be kicking yourself later. When you land, take a moment to click the notes to get windlight settings and other graphic information to get most out of the experience. I took all the pictures with that windlight setting, but some of the pictures have local lights on and some not. I also did turn the angle of sunlight every now and then.

I don’t often ramble or mention what I’ve done in photoshop, but I feel this time I should. Every picture has a film grain filter on them and some of them got also a touch of curves to make them lighter — generally those taken without local lights on. This particular picture also got some sky fiddling because I managed to have the squares bug that often comes when taking huge pictures. Otherwise the pictures are untouched.

It seems our heroine manages to escape from the gigantic fox. It’s a miracle, considering what she’s wearing is hardly made for running. The dress, hat and shoes are all by Likka*House. She’s having a Rez Day Sale at the moment, so if you like kawaii dresses and lolita style — gothic or regular — hop over to shop today or tomorrow! It will be all over on Monday.

From fox to bees! Time to panic! The hair (colour-change scripted with colour-change bands as well) is from Waka & Yuki’s latest lucky chair. It felt so very gothic lolita appropriate that I had to wear it with this.

Why is it called Anna’s Many Murders, you may ask. Well. There were plenty of murders made by Anna. Mail man, grandpa, inspector, juror, judge, warden and more. This particular one is the warden. The whole experience is very surreal, slightly creepy and very jawdroppingly awesome.

As for the other credits, I added a make-up by Mynerva and cobweb face tattoo by Sassy Kitty Designs to Sonya’s usual League-skin. I also changed the normal grey Poetic Colors eyes into something slightly more surreal. The gloves and stockings are not a part of the outfit, but made by The Black Canary. The black heart ring is by Kosh. As for poses, the first picture’s pose is a part of the sim, but in order the rest are by: No Strings Attached, Niqotine, Poise, Croire and Olive Juice.

Take a break from expos, fairs and events, grab a cup of coffee and go stare in amazement while you wander. You’ll feel better afterwards!

Friday the 13th

I was going to start this post by declaring that unless you’re a templar with a time machine visiting 1307, you have nothing to worry about, but apparently there are plenty of theories on why Friday the 13th is supposedly unlucky. I sort of like the scorned Frigga one, I can imagine her being all hissy.

Obviously I had to make a black cat post for today. Usually if I put on ears and go kemonomimi I turn into a bunny, but there’s no mean bunny days so kitty-time it is! (No, the Monty Python bunny doesn’t count. <.<)

Lazy kitty lounging on a mouse trap, waiting for noms. The mouse trap is by Virtual Props & Poses (old hunt gift) and the floating furniture are from a spooky skybox by Snow Bound. I originally had the skybox in the picture as well, but it was no-mod so I couldn’t mutilate it to let the light in, so I decided to go for surreal wall-less look instead. The other black kitties are by A.I. Friends (the one near the boots), XD Fusion (on the mouse trap base) and Pink Fuel (clinging to the trap part).

~I’m gonna catch you, little batty~ The stones, the tree and the bats are all a part of a graveyard by Foxworth Creations. The pose is by Poise and worked perfectly for the kittiness. Kitty has a Mynerva skin with a scar on her cheek (from Mynerva’s birthday gift hunt), black-based neko-eyes by Urban Dare and a slinky black tail and twitchy ears by Kosh. She also has cyber kitteh boots by DV8, because I’m not too fond of the big prim paws, but wanted something else than shoes. The slinky latex outfit is by Dare Designs. Why yes, ‘slinky’ is the keyword here. We are talking of felines, after all. The bangles (and the nails & rings in the first picture) are by Mandala. The snake tattoo and what little you may see of the padlocked collar are by Sn@tch. The nose chain is by Wild Style Fashions and the hair & hat combo is by Waka & Yuki. It felt like an appropriate mix of mock-military kick-assness mixed with grungy comfiness.
