Out of the Shadows

Into the sun. It’s in a way exactly what the Sophie Lancaster Foundation is about: working on spreading tolerance to include also the people who simply dress differently. It’s rather mind-breakingly sad that this has to be any kind of issue, but we all know it is. The world is exactly that sometimes: mind-breakingly sad.

There should be a base respect within us for other human beings, no matter what they look like or how they dress. It is strange how much easier it is to channel all the negativity you feel toward anything different than to face what is really the matter. No one can change how people react toward differences, but we can change what is considered different. Eventually.

Most importantly, we should — everyone should — stop trying to hide in the shadows and simply be who you are, no matter if it fits in the norm or not. Same of course vice versa, don’t try to be something you are not. Simply be yourself. Be so proudly, in the sun. The norm will change in time: gradually, eventually, one person at a time.

The Faire Is Open!

Fantasy Faire has opened its portals for everyone to venture in and become enchanted by the magic the world-builders have woven into existence. Remember that the first days are always busy, so become as script-free as you can and be sure to pick up the free low lag looks for both genders, available at every port-in. They’re made by The Plastik this year and come both in human and mermaid colours.

You can find all the slurls, shop lists and other information in the official Fantasy Faire site here. If you simply wish to get to the Faire as soon as possible, I recommend hopping to Fairelands Junction, which has portals to all the other sims.

Nocturnal

You might have seen them from the corner of your eye, merging with the shadows, prowling the night, only the glow of their eyes giving them away… until they tumble out of the dark, raise their paws up and ask to be snuggled.

This goofy little thing is a nocturnal meeroo: full of giddy excitement to explore her surroundings better. Especially the magical plantlife that is instinctively familiar to her. The elf who caught the meeroo — or perhaps simply picked her up after the silly critter tumbled out and decided similar markings and ears meant they belong together — is trying very hard not to laugh.

The meeroos have journeyed to join other magical creatures at Fantasy Faire, where they have settled at Lumenaria. If you’re more interested in the elf than the cuddly things, the skin, ears and eyes are all by The Plastik and they’ll be available in Evensong Woods. The poses by Musa can be found in Magnificat. The Faire is now open for all the adventurers to enter and shop to their hearts’ content!

The Good, The Bad and The Lucky

There’s something about contrasts, opposites that makes both clearer. By defining what something is not is also defining what one is. For example, when you define something as ethereal, peaceful and slightly detached while still good, you might end up with this moonlit creature.

If you move to the opposite direction, you can find physical, intense and fully alive while possibly more bad. That seems to be the division between the two in classic fantasy: good is often more emotionally detached while bad is driven by their passions.

I personally favor the storytelling that turns this around and teaches the luminous beings how to breathe and how to feel, even if it would come with a price. On a less serious note: the dark side does have all the cookies. I’m not sure what Arachnos here puts in her cookies, but I’m quite convinced she has them.

The skin, loincloth, spider legs, eyes and the extra eyes on forehead and cleavage are all a part of the current fortune teller prize in Fallen Gods Inc. The teller will be joining hands until November 3rd, but the skins will be for sale later. The lighter counterpart, Anima, is one of his latest creations as well. Anima’s jewelry is by Tekeli-li, who is also having a Halloween sale at the moment. Hairs are by Alice Project, the colour change HUD with control over select parts of hair was perfect for contrasting. The web collar on Arachnos is by Scrub, from the latest round of Horror Haute.

As for the title, the Lucky is of course you.

Suddenly Warmer

Stand up and shout! That’s the name of the pose set with the mic props by BENT. It was made for Limited Bazaar, where a limited amount of items are for sale at discount prices. When the event is over, the items will still be sold in the respective main stores, but at full prices, so if you want some attitude in your SLife, go see if there’s any of these left!

The horns (that to me look like wicked bunny ears, of course) are by lassitude & ennui and they’re available in the Starlust Monster Beach Party for the whole of October. Go browse, shop and have fun: just be careful of any encounters of tentacular nature!

The eye makeup is a mix of two, both by Beautiful Freak. The long side squiggles can be found in a gacha at Monster Gacha Festival, which also lasts the whole month. I added their Poison liner to it for extra attitude. Lipstick is by M.O.C.K. Cosmetics and the Opera choker is one of my favourites from Donna Flora.

The surprisingly cutesy pleated mesh mini skirt is by Nomine, matching the Phoebe boots by lassitude & ennui. The boots are currently available only in L’accessoires. I set my demonic little star to the stage she deserves: the Hell Throne by Garden of Dreams.

Madame Guillotine

Only because “Their heads? Off with them.” felt slightly too long a title. Besides, Madame Guillotine is a perfect character to spawn from the current Twisted Hunt. She could easily be some sort of a spirit of the machine in a supernatural horror movie, hovering about and grinning as the blade keeps coming down, the last thing you’ll ever see.

The guillotine is by Culprit. It’s macabre, perfectly functional and morbidly hilarious at the same time with its leg twitching and kangaroo head in the bucket. The surroundings are the Church of Starry Wisdom by Souzou Eien, showing what happens to the heads afterwards: into the starry abyss gate of monsters!

The red vinyl dress by Sassy!, mesh eyes by -{The Attic}-, skin by Style by Kira and the chess board facial tattoo by Reila Skins are also from the hunt, but I did add a red lipstick by Izzie’s and blood tattoo layer by The Plastik to the mix. Boots, hair and poses are also not from the hunt.

Queen Mab

No, not the Shakespearean one, but much more primal creature of the wilds. The name is really a play on the body tattoo Warrior Queen by Mabinogion, because really, it’s not like she’s wearing much else.

I did dress her in leather bikini by Sn@tch and gave her a Raven Sage Staff (old hunt gift by Bad Juju) to complete the look, but there’s really no need to dress up at all in the Hidden Cove. The location is actually a dream scene by Garden of Dreams, consisting of 270 prims worth of cuddles, poses, more intimate couple animations and sounds to match the waves.

When you remove the few scanty leather bits, she’s still almost as dressed as she was with them and ready to step into the jungle, perfectly camouflaged and gorgeous.

52 Colours: Feldgrau

Feldgrau, field grey, is usually associated with military uniforms. It’s very dull green, almost grey as the name states and I had trouble finding it in my inventory, especially since I wanted to keep some sort of nod toward military. …yes, it’s a corset. I said a nod, not actual accuracy of any sort!

I tinted the blonde parts of this bob by LaViere to feldgrau, just to have more of the colour in the picture than just some parts of the SAKIDE mesh corset. It was a part of a hunt prize a while ago and I don’t actually know if they have it for sale or not, but it was perfect for this. Speaking of perfect, the surroundings are Kaaos Das Boot U-Boat, which was also a hunt prize from MadPea at some point, I believe.

When I was going through my makeup folder, I wanted to go for that night-time look, even if Eddie Izzard calls it a bit of a slapdash. Combining three different tattoo layers did the trick, I think our U-boat captain looks perfectly believable. In an anime film, mayhaps.

52 Colours: Russet

Hey, a brown that I didn’t turn into steampunk! Be surprised! Russet as a colour comes from a coarse cloth made of wool and dyed with woad and madder to give it a subdued grey or reddish-brown shade. By the statute of 1363, poor English people were required to wear russet. I wonder if that is where the view of brown as dull, serious, plain colour comes from.

I stayed within respectable, but Miss Russet insisted on going to a piano bar and refused to be plain! The said piano bar is a skybox and a dream scene from Garden of Dreams. 384 prims, 40×40 footprint, animations at the mic, piano, bar stools, chairs and cuddle and more-intense-snuggling couple activities in the couches.

Miss Russet has strapping new wedges by lassitude & ennui, available in L’accessoires. They’re mesh, come with HUD as usual and have both rigged version and unrigged versions that are thus modable for size. The magpie-amount of pearls are also by lassitude & ennui, from If I Were Rich Hunt. They’re mesh and modable, so I tinted some strands brown and black, the original version is all much paler.

The main russet thing, the heart of the look, is of course the mesh pencil skirt. It’s by tulip. from the Vintage Fair that is still going on. Three big sims full of wonderful things and the packed-up-with-people lag should be all gone now. If you haven’t yet visited, now’s a good time!

52 Colours: Tyrian Purple

Tyrian purple is historically the colour for royalty, for the Byzantium controlled imperial silks among other things. Children of the emperors were said to be born in the purple. That said I obviously had to go historical with it and get a gown from Evie’s Closet for Miss Tyrian Purple.

To get away with the fantasy influences and era/style clashes, I made her a vampire. Could even be a modern picture of a very old one with historical tastes, after all. The Roman Bath is by Garden of Dreams, full of bathing, lounging and cuddling animations and poses. It’s 208 prims with a footprint of 30×30.

The butterfly necklace by Maxi Gossamer, skin by Glam Affair and the updo with the colour change headband of jewelry by D!va are all in the current Collabor88. It’s full of awesome things, what with it being their first birthday. Much huzzah for the first year of collaboration!

The curliques around her eye are a part of separate makeup by M.O.C.K. Cosmetics, as is the lip colour. I just couldn’t resist a touch of eccentricity. That said, would you come for a relaxed toga bathing party if she invited you over?
