Fallen White Bunlings

“But are you SURE the matsikal fotoshop will give me tattoo? Maybe we should try crayons instead?”

“Yes, I’m sure. …and the result might still look like crayons, but I promise, you will have a Fallen tattoo and can participate in the contest.”

“Yeytattoo!”

“Exactly that. Now just pose well, wiggle your nose… aaaand there!”

“Where where?”

“Just a saying. Means we’re done. All good!”

“Allgud!”

Critter Adventures in the Fairelands: Bunlings and the Dungeon Treasure

The journey through scarydark had been long. Bunlings kept stopping and peeking behind them to make sure the strange mirror creatures were not following. They didn’t. Eventually they decided that Faireland magic kept them in the Mirror World and relaxed.

“Maybe they’re not mean? Maybe they just look all grrrr?”

“Like Matshan?” Bunling flopped his ears thoughtfully. Maybe the Mirror Creatures would be full of good magic too when met.

“Ys.” Both bunlings paused to consider this possibility, then shook their heads.

“There was no critters near, only bones. That’s bad grrr.”

“Yas. Not a weff in sight. Or even a birdy.”

“They can stay in the mirror. No need to hlp out!”

Happy with their decision the bunlings continued following the gigantic glowing mushrooms that towered over them. The corridors were long and dark, but eventually their noses caught a familiar scent.

“Karots!”

Hopping turned into zooming as the bunlings followed their noses straight into the bazaar, and into the carrot container, the true golden treasure of the Bazaar Dungeon.

Bunlings are adventuring in The Bazaar Dungeon at Fantasy Faire. Come join them!

Critter Adventures in the Fairelands: Sailing in Junction

It is tricksy to cross the sea between Falls of Hope and Aetherea, especially if you’re not a mermaid. Or have a handy snorkel. Or if you cannot really swim, just splash a little in shallow pools for fun.

Fortunately the bunling had come prepared with a mighty ship. He did not really have paddles — nor paw flexibility to use any — but the ship had a big sail, and Fairelands always seemed to help the travelers to get where they were going. The bunling liked that, and wished other lands were as friendly, too.

As he was bravely sailing across the endless ocean, he suddenly noticed a flower crown emerging from the depths, followed by a fishie. There was a moment of excited waving and almost toppling over, then a calmer happy greeting.

The fish said he usually frolics with all his friends in the endless embrace of colours, but sometimes he peeks up at the strange thin water above the cover of the world. Bunling peeked up too, but saw only fluffy clouds in the sky. Then he peeked down and touched his nose to the wet surface, causing ripples. He leaned further… and further… and then almost tumbled over as he saw the colours. So many colours all over, swaying and dancing in the water!

The newly-found fish-friend straightened the mighty ship and nudged it to follow the right stream, to make sure the bunling would reach land safely. He waved, and waved, and waved some more, until the flower crown vanished from sight. He did not dare to peek into the water again, it had all looked immense and easy to get lost in — even with a snorkel — but he kept thinking about the colours. One day he’d learn how to bubble safely and go back. One day he’d also frolic in the colours with fish friends.

The bunling is sailing in Fairelands Junction, visiting Fantasy Faire, which is still open until May 7th!

The mighty ship is {RW} Pools of Ethuil Memoria Caravel by Roawenwood, available of course at the Faire, in Roawenwood’s store at Pools of Ethuil.

Critter Adventures in the Fairelands: Addler in Tiny Town

Addler was not quite certain why hoomans called good things a heaven. Heaven was blue and white and sometimes even rainy. Regardless, he had heard the expression often enough to ponder whether this could be one. He had never seen so many waffles anywhere in his life! He had lived long, too, at least all the pawfuls! It was a mountain of waffles, and more were appearing all the time, like magic!

He sniffed around in case this was Matshan’s doing — when things appeared out of nowhere, it often was — but could smell just the waffles, and various critter scents, and more waffles! He waddled closer to the waffle shower. Closer. Clooooooser.

When one dropped on his head he finally believed they were real. He took a bite, then another. Then another. Three waffles later he remembered to look around in case there were any potential waffle treasure owners glaring at him, but nope. He was alone. Alone with a mountain of waffles!

Five more waffles later he felt his tummy rounding up from the golden treasure, and he plopped down, letting the waffles rain on him. The world was golden and squareish and delicious smelling. He felt fuzzy-headed and after a little while flopped backwards, letting the waffles half-bury him. World was wonderful. Waffles were wonderful. Perhaps… perhaps world was a waffle. Yes. In his sugar-induced higher meditative state, this felt like the most profound truth of all time.

World is delicious and intoxicating and fulfilling and sometimes exhausting.

World is a waffle.

Addler is visiting Fantasy Faire, enjoying the waffle rain in Tiny Town. Come join him!

Critter Adventures in the Fairelands: Bunlings in Aetherea

“Oooooooooooo.” Bunlings exhaled their astonishment in unison, a small soft sound echoing over the temples.

“It’s all shiny!” One exclaimed, then lowered his voice to a whisper. “‘n prittiful ‘n there’s fishies!”

“Floaty magic! I wonder if there’s floaty upside hoomans living there, too.”

“Think we’ll be upside down if we go there?” The smaller bunling tilted her head and almost tumbled over from the roof where their floating flower vehicle had landed.

“I see green things!” There was paw-pointing toward the lawn, and happily perked ears.

“Let’s-” A pause, a glance down, a glance at not-good-at-climbing-paws, then both turned toward the floaty flower and hopped on once more, just to let it glide gently down.

“Now let’s look clos-” Another pause, and both bunlings sniffed the air.

“It smells like Matshan! Allover Matshan! ‘s like home!”

“Also smells of flowers and candles and and… magic and gudspirits!”

“Let’s go say hai!”

Bunlings hopped and bopped allover, checked under the benches and cushions, nosed trees and flowers, clambered up big stairs to even bigger buildings, headtilted at each bell sound until they eventually found stairs leading to what seemed like scattered flowers and food.

“I think the gudspirits are invisible. Makes sense, less hoomans bothering them.”

“Look, hoomans leave things for them to nom! We should, too.”

After a slow clambering and dragging of a big carrot up the stairs one by one, the bunlings finally laid the vegetable next to the other gifts on the shrine.

“Hello, gudspirits! We come from Ambar. Everyone says hai!”

“You smell like home, so we must be friends! We brought you a karot. It’s very tasty.”

The bunlings stayed silent for a while, as to listen, ears tilting from one side to another. Then both bopped a small bow and hop-tumbled down the shrine, leaving the offering next to the flowers and incense to delight the spirits.

Bunlings are visiting Fantasy Faire, come join them in Aetherea!

Critter Adventures in the Fairelands: Bunlings Are Not Lost

“Do you think we’re lost?” The smaller bunling asked.

“Nope, we’re right here!” The slightly bigger one wiggled his nose knowingly.

“But I thought we should be elsewhere!” She peeked over the petals of the floating chrysanthemum they were using as a traveling device.

“Ohyas.” The bigger bunling scratched his ear thoughtfully. “Ladybun said we’d recognize it from the scent of waffles. ‘n gud arts on the walls.”

Smaller bunling peeked over another petal. “Dunsee any arts.” She sniffed the air. “‘n the air smells gudforesty. All leaves ‘n growing things ‘n flowers ‘n happicritters ‘n that nosetickling whiff!”

“‘s Faireland scent. The magic tickles.”

Smaller bunling examined her paws ‘n then patted her nose with them. “All tingly, too.”

“We couuuld land ‘n have a picnic!”

“But but… Ladybun said ‘s important to go to the waffle place.”

The floating chrysanthemum slowly moved onward, leaving bunlings staring at the forest with wiggly noses and tails.

“…when we have waffled, let’s come back.”

“Yas. But first we’ll waffle!”

How the Critters Went Caroling

“Does he bring the sun back, is that why he’s called Sun?” The smallest bunling peeked at the sky that showed no sign of light diminishing. “…in the places that don’t have Matshan and that get dark in the winter.”

“He’s not called Sun.” One of the squirrel brothers paused to explain, then continued shaking and listening to a nut, scouting for the weakest side for opening.

“Is too! Sun Da Claws! …although the claws sound sort of worrisome. Are they hidden in the mittens? Why does he need claws? Wrapping presents must be tricksy.”

“Nono, is San-ta.” Squirrel beat the nut against the ground, wishful gleam in his eyes.

“‘s what I said! Sun Da.”

“Saaaan-tah!”

“Suuuuun Da!”

“Has nothing to do with sun! ‘s just …word that sounds similar.”

“What does it mean, then?” The smallest bunling frowned and nosed his own ear in confusion.

“Dunno! ‘s just a hooman word.” The nut was almost broken by now, the squirrel knew it, just a couple more hits.

“Ladybun said ‘s cuter form of ‘saint’.” Addler stretched into all his otterish height to look more important.

“Ahaaa.” The smallest bunling nodnodded for a while, then headtilted. “What’s a seint?”

Addler sunk down into a round ball of cake-loving critterness. He had hoped the question wouldn’t come up. “It means… it means… A Very Good Hooman. Who brings everyone cake! ‘n gifts.”

The squirrel made a triumphant sound as the nut broke, then nodded in agreement. “Makes sense. Surely San-tah is the best hooman ever, even with claws.”

“The bestest hooman! …after Ladybun.” The smallest bunling beamed at the solved riddle.

“‘n Matshan.” Addler added, then sat down with a thoughtful sound.

“When he’s not grrrring.” The squirrel commented, now busy stuffing his cheeks with the nut.

“So the bestest hooman after Ladybun and Matshan when he’s not grring.” Addler repeated, happy that the consensus had been achieved.

“Sometimes not hooman!” The smallest bunling pointed out. “Sometimes a woof! Weffs told me, they wait for him every yool.”

“‘s good,” Addler agreed. “Woof surely speaks Critter better. Hoomans sometimes a bit deaf.”

“We should do something nice for Sun Seint!”

“But what? He has so many noms and toys and shinies that he gives them away, he doesn’t need anything.” Addler frowned in thought, for surely that’s all anyone could possibly want in life.

The squirrel paused, took another bite, then nodded. “We should sing to him!”

The smallest bunling’s ears shot up. “Oooo, like the Musikal Maus Band! We could even invite them along!”

Addler nodnodded, getting back up on two paws. “Like the Sensibly-Sized Hooman-Speaking Carolers that there’s on the Other Island every year!”

This caused a chorus of eeeeeeeeees all around, the critters were huge fans of tinies caroling, although they had never understood why hoomans called them ‘tinies’.

“We could sing classics like… Treatmas Everi Dei and Frosti the Snowpingu and O Festive-nom!”

“Weffs can invite him over, he can’t be busy yet, still many days to go.”

“Bestplan! Time to karaoke practice! I call Pina Colada! …we can put the singing stick in the snow and and…”

* * *

…and the best of holiday wishes, warmth and noms and relaxation to all of you from the Critters of Ambar and their Ladybun.

PS. If you’re also a fan of the Sensibly-Sized Hooman-Speaking Carolers, there’ll be tinies caroling in Selidor at 12:30 afternoon SLT on 29th of December! (Caroling followed by the Night Theater, another thing not to miss.)

Petal’s Shopping Trip to the Fairelands

“Hai! ‘m Petal, ‘n I live with Ladybun ‘n Magician. They’re always busy in the Fairelands this time of year, so I decided to see what the fuss is about. Turns out there’s a lot of fuss! Also, fuzz. ‘n hats! Mr. and Mrs. Croaklet said this particular colour compliments my fur tone.”

“Ladybun always dresses fashonably for the Faire, so I did, too! Flower in the eye has been on top of the trends this year, I know, I read blogs! …well, at least look at pictures. …browse flickr once a month?”

“It’s otterly important to feel like a princess as often as critterly possible. ‘n to sparkle! Big things to carry on your head are gud, too. Ladybun always has stuff on her head, sometimes more than on her body! Just like me! ‘s gud critter dressage. Dress-up. Dressing?”

“Like so! Nothing else needed, perfection! All ready for my big date now, just need to find a romantik location…”

This year the Critter Adventures in the Fairelands advanced to the next logical level: fashion blogging. You can’t blame Petal, those are some fancy things to wear!

Galactic Gardens

“This is Wigglenaut Pandanski to Wigglenaut Bunaire, do you copy?”

“Copy what? I think I have paper and a pen somewhere… ohlook, birdies with handy headlights!”

“…do you hear me?”

“Of course I do, that’s why I answered, see. But look at them, so convenient! ‘n I think I see blue light at the roots of these flowers.”

“We have a Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Wigglenaut Base, I repeat, we have-“

“Where’s the first and second? Ohoh, there’s another down there! But I don’t see the third…”

“The alien seems non-hostile and appears to be trying to communicate.”

“He’s waving! Let’s wave back! ‘n wiggle our ears, he has excellently big ears for wiggling, I bet they talk through that.”

“Wigglenaut Base, I request fast-forwarding my retirement request.”

“Maybe if I’ll put a candle on my head, the birdies will talk to me, what do you think? I wonder why the blue-friendlies don’t float, do they have glue in their paws…”

“The faster the better. PLEASE.”

The brave wigglenauts are adventuring in a Galactic Garden created with plantlife from Cerridwen’s Cauldron, the best source for fantasy, scifi and plain exotic flora on the grid.
