The sound transmitters have been correctly calibrated, the temperatures adjusted to support the majority of bioforms, the AI set to correspond and respond to the lifeforms moving on the various surfaces.

Azure’s Search for Normal People

Never content with just one world, Azure had long ago mastered the skill of landwalking. The first shifting had been awkward, her new-shaped limbs as useless as a baby fish tail, shuddering on reflex instead of control. But she had learned since. She had learned well.

She taught the craft now to the other curious mermaids, how to control two narrower, more angular tails, how to balance upright on them, how to survive in thin non-supporting air instead of the stronger embrace of water. How to transmute sea shells and coral into human body ornaments and wrappings.

It was perhaps the biggest challenge of them all, to learn which parts of the body should be wrapped in decor and which not, but after the initial mistakes and a lot of landwalker observation, Azure was now confident she had it right. If she could just find landwalkers with a normal skin colour instead of this one endless tribe of sand tones, she’d be happy. 

But no matter how far she had searched she could find no blues and the sand-skins kept raising strange structures wherever she had visited and burning small fires in them. Kneeling was also commonplace, but Azure assumed it was to show off their superior limb control. If she could only find normal people things would be easier: they would explain the landwalker oddities to their mer-cousin, those normal blue people.

The Draco Odyssey/Laguna skin by Fallen Gods Inc. is available in We Love Roleplay event. Azure’s skin was the scaled version underwater and smooth when rising to the surface. Super Maya

Even superheroes have to live with the perceptions of others, with their opinions, with their words and views. All of these are always based on very little knowledge, on snippets of information, ideas, quick glances: often completely wrong.

The opinions of others might feel like a box around you, telling you what you are, defining you. Your own ideas and wishes might begin to appear strange and a bit scary, a dream taking a shape of a nightmare. 

Once you find the courage to ride the dream you will realize that the suffocating box of others views of you is just ignorant guesses telling more about them than you and that you can shrug it all off and ride out to gaze into your own horizon.

It takes bravery to remember that no one knows you better than yourself and that everyone is their own life’s superhero, fighting the unseen battles. It helps to know everyone else has their own villains harassing them and that there are always others willing to join forces with you and to have your back. 

This is a post for and about Super Maya, who is a little six year old girl bullied in school. She dressed up as a superhero just to feel stronger and more able to handle the issue. Axi of Beautiful Freak made these fancy superhero nails just to send Maya a message of courage, and has asked everyone to take pictures of them and to add them in the Beautiful Freak’s flickr pool to send the same message to Maya. The nails are available in Silly 7. The boots by lassitude & ennui are also new and available in Geeks’N’Nerds.

Just because I’ve wanted to make a mermaid post the whole spring and never had the time for it: now I did. Besides, frolicking in water is an inseparable part of summer. The Violet Vision

Phasing Out

It’s almost time. Do the last supply runs, double-check the charts, calibrate the portal. Make sure not to forget anything behind, not a single thing of value, not even a stray circuit.

The portals are opening all over, the slower ships have already flown off, the time machines rolled back — or forward — just the ones who have either the tech or the innate ability to teleport have stayed.

Futurewave has 34 standard time units left before it phases out. Enjoy its last moments and make sure you don’t kick yourself later for forgetting the repairs-upgrades you wanted all along.

At the Core

Landing at the data core was a remarkable experience. It’s surprising how intact it still is despite all the stubborn attempts of the surrounding world trying to cover it up, grow around it, suffocate it, hide it away… who knows how the global plantmind works.

I managed to connect rather easily to it, just had to make sure not to use any tech newer than from Before Growth. It still had perfectly operational tracking parameters in its routines.

It even had galactic sniffers in it still. Oh yes it did. Intergalactic location coordinators sure made the work of law enforcement easy once upon a time. Just like they now eased my task. Thank you, Ancients!

Now the only problem is to decide which one of the targets to go after first…

Almost all of the look is available in Futurewave that still keeps zooming on at light speed. After the Fall

Day 221, AF549. Woke up to the sounds outside. Screeching. Went to check. Dispersed the swarm, exterminated the stragglers and the stubborn. Light too harsh in mornings, why can’t they ruckus in the night?

Day 235, AF549. The right-side radar implant jams a little. I should have it checked the next time I leave the outpost. With the sunspot storms that’ll be another cycle and a half still. Better calibrate an emergency back-up, just in case.

Day 291, AF549. Performed the obligatory three-cycle scan-and-maintenance on the outer structures. It holds up well, not even a scratch from the screechers. Worth every exchange I did for it.

Day 301, AF549. The light is dimming. If I’m lucky, I might be able to get supplies quarter cycle early. If I’m not, this is just a herald of a new weather change. Or environment. Like that time the radiation rains hit the first time.

Day 336, AF549. Finished all my discs on The Boredom of the Past. I know, I know, worthless fiction, but it keeps me going. Just thinking of a world where everything is mundane and reliable and steady is a relief. Besides, the main clerk is just dreamy.

Almost everything in the whole scenario is from Futurewave. I turned the dress by [ SAKIDE ] and the chaps by .::Aftershok::. into a top and pants combination, although it creates some intriguing cuts in the process, since they really are chaps, not pants. The arm warmers by @->~ISD and the mask by .::Aftershok::. completed the selective covering. The radar eyes from *~By Snow* come with a HUD for selecting colours for everything, including the moving radar and the blips on it. The skin by Pink Fuel has an included layer for face glow amongst gazillion options and I’ll be playing with it more in posts where most of my face remains visible. The poses by {Rook} worked wonderfully with the ray guns by GALLACTIC and [bauwerk] is responsible for the most perfect post-apocalyptic safety outpost ever. The hair by Alice Project is available in The Thrift Shop.
