Flower Fae

They’re called by many names: flower fae, lily spirits, petal pixies, frippery fronds… figments of your imagination, or ‘I definitely had too much to drink’ among the most popular ones. They awaken with the sun, wiggle out of the protective petals of the flower and get to work.
What is it they do, you might wonder. The answer is obvious, for they are flowers. They soak in the warm rays and daylight and look beautiful. It’s not easy, they tell me. So much sun to catch, so much beauty to show off!
For the rarest of them, those growing on distant planets, they might even have to catch several suns, and a couple of moons before they can rest. It isn’t easy being beautiful, but definitely worth every indulgently spent moment lazing in the warm sun.

She Walks on Water

She walks on water, each step barely dipping pale toes in, causing small ripples. Each ripple sprouts life, drawing forth plants, flowers reaching up to the daylight, up to her. 

She walks on water, and the flowers bloom with magic, swirling in the breeze like fireworks, delighting in the footsteps of Spring.

The Purple Season

It arrives after the Freezing Teal, the season of Purple. It spreads slowly over the realm, colouring each spore and shroom with it. The Season Changers have already shifted their skins, their markings turning to reflect the current growth plans.

Each line, each symbol, number, cipher on their skin represents a change still to take place, a shift they will conjure into being. With each realm alteration a line vanishes, leaving just pure purple behind. When the plane glows in radiant hues of various purples, their skins will be free of designs and their work will be done.

With Fantasy Faire on the horizon I’m feeling understandably purple. (Psst, the blogger applications are open until April 15th.)

In the Realm of Frost

Every winter is born in the Realm of Frost, condensing from the nights of old, their lingering breezes and gusts of cold air. Some winters barely catch a touch of frost, others pack themselves full of snow. But all of them need to be broken free before they are born.

The Frost Daughters estimate, evaluate and finally decide when a winter is ready to be freed. They keep an eye on how cold its sphere becomes, how active the glittering blue lights are, how big it grows. 

When they feel it is ready, all it takes is a touch and the frost cracks open the shell that held the cold in check and the winter is ready to begin.

Dragons Dream

What do dragons dream of? There are many theories and suggestions, many answers even from the drakekin themselves. Some claim that it’s gold, some say conquest, some higher planes of magic, perhaps simply the joy of flying.
It may or may not be all of those things, but one dream always returns: the one where they are whelps once more, just specks of magic floating around within their very own plane of slumber, the one where they live before they are born to a more physical form.
They remember their guardians and caretakers, the warm glow of golden magic that they so hard try to reproduce in their hoards. They remember the humanoid feminine beauty, one of the first things they ever see and therefore try to recapture.
They dream of the gentle sway of flora made of magic, feeding their existence with each radiant spark of colour. They remember fluttering their small wings, floating on the currents of arcane energy.
What do dragons dream of? Gold and magic, beauty and flight. Dragons dream of beginnings, dragons dream of endings, dragons dream of eternity.

Calling the Celebrants

We have been invited. Every year the invitation arrives, every year the curtains are drawn aside to reveal doorways, every year the Sound of Life rings in our silenced ears once more. It calls, it beckons, it pleads. Just like it always did. Just like it always does.

The Source Seeker

The Memory of the Sea

Each pearl is a memory. Some are sparks of joy, leaping within the waves, meeting new friends, swimming in sunlight. Some hold sorrow, carry moments of loss, loneliness, despair. They form within the Sea as all its children experience life. They form within the Sea and the Sea never forgets.
We bear them for her, we beings of starlight and waves, foam and eternity. The pearls wrap around us, moment by moment, heartbeat by heartbeat. We carry the life of the Sea in all its rich beauty, we laugh with dolphins, we weep with whales, we remember the brief flashes of light before the darkness descends, we treasure the long years of turtles, we feel it all.

The Mittens Visit Wizard Whiskers

“Is this the right path to the wizard?” The voice was soft and curious and only a little bit nervous.

“Yas,” another voice responded. “Lookit, a lantern guardian bun, just like Madame Miu said.”

“Please help us, o Mighty Wizard Whiskers. Flufftail has been turned into a hooman!”

“She’s now all mute, makes just weird gibberish sounds ‘n tries to walk on her hindpaws all the time.”

“She’s even started wearing other animals’ skins on herself! It’s so gruesome that we don’t know what to do!”

Wizard Whiskers did not say a word, simply nodded slowly and glowing strands of sparkles picked the hooman up to twirl her in the air until all the Mittens could see was glittering lights. Then they heard a soft thump as something considerably smaller and fluffier landed on her four white paws.

“‘n that’s how we got our sister back and learned not to play with cursed red ribbons. Not even when they have wiggly tinkly bells attached.”
