Growth of a Forest Fae

They begin their lives as petite fae, dancing with the lights on the bottom of the forest, on its waters and moss-covered hills. Their wings, their magic, can barely hold them afloat, but as they explore, as they dance, their enchantments grow stronger.

They practice by flying higher, landing on branches as large as roads, walking on them with tiny steps until trying to reach the higher foliage again.

On their way higher they begin to grow. The forest is ancient and it takes them years to fly up, years as they grow in size and magic. The foliage begins to thin, small beams of light tease them, lure them higher.

Then one day they break through the leaves into the light and touch the dawn. It is a blinding moment after the safety of the dark embrace of forest shadows. Blinding moment of growth when all the roads are not only open, but non-existent. Sky is open, sky has no limits.

The last weekend of Fantasy Faire 2017 is upon us. The official event program ends on Sunday, but we will have a six-hour closing party on Monday to wrap things up thoroughly. The Fairelands stay open for visitors through May 4th, so feel welcome to stay, explore, shop and quest!

Living at The Rose

The statues at The Rose are alive. You wouldn’t know it at first glance as they stand on their pedestals, pose in their carefully selected spots, frozen in moments of activity. You wouldn’t — couldn’t — guess, but it is true. Their sculptor imbued them with life and spirit full of humor and mischief.

The moment you glance away, they end up giving merry buntoinettes unicorn rides and playing Fantasy Football with pigeons. When you glance back, they’re gone, only the sudden breeze revealing that something incredibly fast zoomed by. The breeze and a faint eeeeeee-sound in the wind.

When playing with their flesh-and-blood friends, they often pretend to freeze back to statues again. That way you might see statues where there wasn’t any yesterday, nor will there be tomorrow. When asked, the blame is always on the Magician tending to The Rose. The statues couldn’t move on their own, after all. Especially not in the Fairelands.

An Unexpected Party

Today is the day. Today we celebrate one of our founders, a true visionary whose imagination shaped ours, whose dreams turned to life in vivid colours and sounds and emotions. 

Today we will hold a party in his honor, a tribute, a feast: a completely Unexpected Party, even! There will be food involved, and music, and fireworks.

Today we gather to celebrate Middle Earth in the closest realm we have to the Shire. Won’t you join the celebration?

She Walks on Water

She walks on water, each step barely dipping pale toes in, causing small ripples. Each ripple sprouts life, drawing forth plants, flowers reaching up to the daylight, up to her. 

She walks on water, and the flowers bloom with magic, swirling in the breeze like fireworks, delighting in the footsteps of Spring.

Petal’s Shopping Trip to the Fairelands

“Hai! ‘m Petal, ‘n I live with Ladybun ‘n Magician. They’re always busy in the Fairelands this time of year, so I decided to see what the fuss is about. Turns out there’s a lot of fuss! Also, fuzz. ‘n hats! Mr. and Mrs. Croaklet said this particular colour compliments my fur tone.”

“Ladybun always dresses fashonably for the Faire, so I did, too! Flower in the eye has been on top of the trends this year, I know, I read blogs! …well, at least look at pictures. …browse flickr once a month?”

“It’s otterly important to feel like a princess as often as critterly possible. ‘n to sparkle! Big things to carry on your head are gud, too. Ladybun always has stuff on her head, sometimes more than on her body! Just like me! ‘s gud critter dressage. Dress-up. Dressing?”

“Like so! Nothing else needed, perfection! All ready for my big date now, just need to find a romantik location…”

The Flavors of the Fairelands

As the Fairelands return and open the portals to the mundane realms for the eleven brief days of magic, so do their denizens, the Faire Folk. Some of them are warm and sunny like unicorns on a summer day, but some gather shadows around them like a cloak, sliding through the fog in the darker corners of the land.

There is always necessary contrast there between dark and light, magic stemming from all living emotions, the good and the less-so. There is an invitation to all beings no matter their allegiance, a call to come and join your kind. For no matter the flavor of your spells, we all belong together in magic. We all belong together in the Fairelands.
