Petal’s Shopping Trip to the Fairelands

“Hai! ‘m Petal, ‘n I live with Ladybun ‘n Magician. They’re always busy in the Fairelands this time of year, so I decided to see what the fuss is about. Turns out there’s a lot of fuss! Also, fuzz. ‘n hats! Mr. and Mrs. Croaklet said this particular colour compliments my fur tone.”

“Ladybun always dresses fashonably for the Faire, so I did, too! Flower in the eye has been on top of the trends this year, I know, I read blogs! …well, at least look at pictures. …browse flickr once a month?”

“It’s otterly important to feel like a princess as often as critterly possible. ‘n to sparkle! Big things to carry on your head are gud, too. Ladybun always has stuff on her head, sometimes more than on her body! Just like me! ‘s gud critter dressage. Dress-up. Dressing?”

This year the Critter Adventures in the Fairelands advanced to the next logical level: fashion blogging. You can’t blame Petal, those are some fancy things to wear!

The Purple Season

It arrives after the Freezing Teal, the season of Purple. It spreads slowly over the realm, colouring each spore and shroom with it. The Season Changers have already shifted their skins, their markings turning to reflect the current growth plans.

Each line, each symbol, number, cipher on their skin represents a change still to take place, a shift they will conjure into being. With each realm alteration a line vanishes, leaving just pure purple behind. When the plane glows in radiant hues of various purples, their skins will be free of designs and their work will be done.

With Fantasy Faire on the horizon I’m feeling understandably purple. (Psst, the blogger applications are open until April 15th.)

“But Santa gave the karot to you, since you don’t have a nose.” The bunling peered up at the snowman with a worried frown.

The snowman smiled — in truth, he smiled all the time because that’s the way he was made, but this time he meant it. “I have a perfectly good nose. I like it, all small and round. Makes me look cuter, too. You can have the carrot.”

The bunling beamed and shuffled his paws in the snow, glancing at the giant carrot, then up at the snowman again. “Are you suuuure?”

The snowman made a sound that tried to relay he would nod if he could move. “Yas. Merry Yule, little critter.”

“Happy Karot Dei!” The bunling responded, touched a paw to the carrot, then hopped closer to the snowman and pressed a small paw against his side. After a moment a decorative paw-scribble was decorating the snowman and the bunling began the Operation Drag Karot Home. He would share the treasure with his cousins and tell stories of the Snowman With Round Nose.

In the Realm of Frost

Every winter is born in the Realm of Frost, condensing from the nights of old, their lingering breezes and gusts of cold air. Some winters barely catch a touch of frost, others pack themselves full of snow. But all of them need to be broken free before they are born.

The Frost Daughters estimate, evaluate and finally decide when a winter is ready to be freed. They keep an eye on how cold its sphere becomes, how active the glittering blue lights are, how big it grows. 

When they feel it is ready, all it takes is a touch and the frost cracks open the shell that held the cold in check and the winter is ready to begin.

The Wings of Vanitas

Every year the new form takes her by surprise. She knows it’s coming, she can feel the change, the pull, the call, the sheer excitement of anticipation, but she never manages to guess what she will be once the magic in Selidor finishes its work. Some years she grows scales, some years she has a tail and some years she spreads wings to take to the suntouched skies. This is one of those years.

This year the wings are made for preening, not for flying. The skies did not call her up, instead all the flowers on the ground invited her to flourish next to them, to match the splendor. Every step stronger, every twirl more luxuriously delicate, Vanitas finds herself within the stunning sceneries, finds herself as a part of the whole, spreading her feathers not to fly, but to adorn the glory of magic even further.

The 9th Anniversary Festival of Fallen Gods Inc. has started with the Fortune Teller, hunt and rooftop market, soon to be followed with events and celebrations. Keep your eyes on the schedule!

The Source Seeker

The flight to the abyss is a long one. It’s mostly a lonely, cold flight through various realms and empty spaces where the only light in existence is the one you carry within you. It is a test: how long does your light hold out against the dark, how persistent is your spirit glow?

The ancient structures that were once mushrooms growing from an asteroid to another mark the way in the end, pulling you to the flow of inspiration at the source of all magic, nourishing your abyss-drained soul. Nourishing, fulfilling and healing until all the obstacles in your journey feel just a distant memory and there is only the glorious Now of Potential and Possibilities.

The Magic of Inspiration is the rarest of energies, always challenging to seek, eternally rewarding to find.

Forest Daughter’s Strange Day

On one sunny autumn day one of the Forest Daughters heard a peculiar sound. She wasn’t quite certain what it was, if it came up from the trees or down from the grass, or possibly the embrace of the bushes. It sounded a bit like hedgehog snuffling mixed with busy conversation. “You go!” “No, you!” “Don’t drop it!” “I get to press the button!” “You goooo!”

After some slow turns of her branches, she heard a voice. “Excuse me, pritti tree lady. Parrr-don. Could you possibly pick me up for a moment?” A white fluffy creature hopped out from the undergrowth and the Forest Daughter leaned down to pick him up. For a moment he just wiggled his nose at her. Then there was a flash of light, a cheer of small voices and the bunling hopped down with a quick “thank-youuu!” and was gone. 

He was followed by a strange line of squirrels and an otter balancing a camera on his head. The Forest Daughter tilted her head, then extended her branches in a shrug and focused back on the precious last rays of sunlight.

Bunlings wanted to participate in the Fallen God & Goddess Contest 2016, but knew they are physically incapable of qualifying by the rules, so they came up with a Cunning Plan: sneak into a picture with a creature that works!

You can find the said rules, deadlines and all the other information on the Fallen Gods Inc. blog, but the rough nutshell is: take a picture wearing a skin (or petite) from Fallen Gods Inc. and send it full perm to Sonya Marmurek before Friday 7 October 2016, 11 pm slt. All the contestants receive an exclusive skin prize, and there’s plenty of other prizes as well!

The Legend of Fireflowers

The Legend of Fireflowers tells of a distant ocean-covered world where under glowing red skies rare flowers bloom once in every hundred cycles. They emerge from beneath the waves and reach toward the red twin suns, their colours changing rapidly as in a dance.

They sing, the Fireflowers, sing in waves of colour and light, silent sparks and blazing patterns. They sing until their song forms a shape: a living, breathing being, called to life by the quiet dance of colours, awakened by the pull of the red skies.

They are born aware, the Fireflowers, aware and ready to embark on their journey toward the strange lights in the sky, toward all the sparkling worlds in the infinite darkness.

Shared Wings of Hope

The Spirits of Hope live in the dark. They have wings: some stronger than others, some more battered and even torn. There are those who lost their ability to fly altogether.

Without wings their journey is harder, more challenging. In those moments it might seem all of the Hope is lost and can never find their way again.

But if one such creature with just one wing meets another of similar kind, they can learn to fly together. Two different wings creating enough of balance for them to move again.

In time their wings will grow back, in time they’ll sing and soar and light the darkness. But for those despairing moments in the dark it is enough to share their wounded wings and fly.

Born of Starlight

Frost spirits are born in small globes of ice, slowly formed of snowflakes and a touch of bright stars. When they open their eyes, the stars are the first thing they see, so their light will spread through the little spirit, filling it with the only glow that can pierce the wintry darkness.

New snowflakes begin to form around the spirit, created out of the cold starlight, dancing in joy and celebration. Some of these flurries spread out and fall until they condense into a new globe of snow-glow, a new frost spirit.

When the frost spirit is strong enough to break free, they will simply move through the ice globe for there is no capturing light. In mere moments the sphere is but a bauble in their hands, a small trinket that they send out into the skies to create new spirits.

Once free, the frost spirit will embrace the cold air, dancing between the stars and the wintry earth, spreading the starlight on the black ground and dark trees, covering them all in sparkling white snow.
