Happy-Making Yool Kart Magic

“What is it?” The smallest bunling asked and sniffed the rectangular piece of cardboard curiously.

“‘s yule card!” The Bunling Who Knows Letters declared proudly.

“Yool-kart,” repeated the smallest bunling and nudged the cardboard up with his nose, then tilted his head as it fell over. “‘s all colourful on this side!”

“What does it do?” One of the squirrels picked the card easily up and held it on the side, then peered forward to try and see the colours better.

“It’s a picture!” The smallest bunling hopped up and down, then paused, tilted his head and took a few side hops to prevent tumbling down. “‘s upside down picture.”

The squirrel turned the card around and everyone gathered to look at it.

“I think they’re waving,” said the younger of the squirrel brothers and waved back at the card.

“He has a carrot-nose!” The smallest bunling kept on hopping up and down excitedly.

“He looks like he’s made of ice cream scoops.” Addler, the otter butler, nodded knowingly.

“The Ladybun said he’s a snow-man, ‘n the red person is a tonttu,” The Bunling Who Knows Letters pronounced with authority. “‘n that people give each other yule-cards to wish them happy festive yuletime! ‘s a trad-ishon.”

“Why doesn’t the snow melt?” The squirrel holding the card pressed his nose against the picture. “It’s not even cold!”

“‘s a picture, like a kamera-picture! ‘n doesn’t have to be snow-men, can be happy winter things of any sort.” The Bunling Who Knows Letters nodded for emphasis, ears flopping. “Then you give them to people and they are happy!”

“Happy-making yool-kart magic!” The smallest bunling turned to his wiser friends. “Let’s make some!”

“The Ladybun did say that Matshan has a big big tree on the Other Island, ‘n people bring all sort of treats and warm wishes under it.”

“We are people!” Addler declared after hearing the word ‘treats’. “Let’s bring wishes there, ‘n yool karts, ‘n see if the others have brought there noms. We could trade!”

A lengthy oooohhh-sound escaped the gathered critters: a fair trade of warm wishes for noms was a brilliant idea!

“I know a jackalope who could take pictures of us! So they can see us wishing well!” The Bunling Who Knows Letters started planning the process. “‘n then we can scribble yeys on the other side and and… someone needs to bake a cake and we need some lights and…”

The critters did manage to make some yool karts and they can be found in a small box under the tree in Selidor, free to take with their warm wishes. There will soon be much more gifts there as the traditional Giving Circle begins, the critters just got a bit over-excited and went over to sniff for possible treat trades early.

The Call of Winter

She was once a daughter of summer, a child of growth and warmth. Beautiful like a sunny day she caught the eye of Winter, who seduced her to step into the silence, into the realm of ice and snow.

There were attempts to save her, of course, but not before she had tasted the berries, red as the blood in her veins. Not before she had bound herself to the realm of her captor.

Did she know what she was doing when she took a bite? Did she know she’d be forever trapped to travel between the seasons? Did the cold light of winter tempt her to stay willingly? She will never tell.

Never tell how it was a relief to drop her garments and duties, the busy sounds of life, the diverse excitement of all things growing and needing her attention. Never tell how the strength of the blinding light called to her with its single-minded focus.

Called to her until she happily lost sight of everything else and stepped forward to meet it, to embrace it, to be caught in its arms. Seduced.

With the outfit name like Persephone I simply had to do a more season-focused twist on her story. Less about Hades and more about Persephone as the explanation for seasons existing, and even more about her own choices within the situation.

The White Lady of Warm Whispers

The eldest of the Dream Guardians is the one we meet the most and never remember. She’s the Hazebringer, the Mist-Dweller, the Feather Fall in the Fog.

She sends out her summons every eve, the call for the exhausted to come and join her in rest, to whisper their burdens, their worries, their secrets to her.

We have all been there, with the White Lady of Warm Whispers. Been there and told her everything. That is why we feel better when we wake up, why the weight has lifted off our shoulders, why things feel clearer for a moment.

She knows us all, she knows our secrets and she keeps them within her chamber of falling feathers, soft mist and silent echoes of our own whispers.

I created a sister-entity for the Blue Lady of Gentle Waves to tie my characters better together, just to shape a more comprehensive lore of ideas and concepts. As for what the White Lady is wearing, a few notes: Senzafine’s Celestine gown is available in The Fantasy Collective and the shoes by lassitude & ennui in Geeks’N’Nerds.

Unlikely Eve

“If you consent, neither you nor any other human being shall ever see us again; I will go to the vast wilds of South America. My food is not that of man; I do not destroy the lamb and the kid to glut my appetite; acorns and berries afford me sufficient nourishment. My companion will be of the same nature as myself and will be content with the same fare. We shall make our bed of dried leaves; the sun will shine on us as on man and will ripen our food. The picture I present to you is peaceful and human, and you must feel that you could deny it only in the wantonness of power and cruelty.” – Frankenstein, chapter 17

The neverborn mate of the creature, the culmination of his plan to make peace with mankind, the symbol of hope and happiness that companionship brings to the lonely. What if she was not destroyed half-formed, what if Frankenstein kept his word and let his creature escape the civilization with his newborn mate into the warmer wilds than Europe can offer?

She would know nothing of the humans except the horror stories her mate bestows upon her to warn her away. To her eyes neither of them look monstrous for she’d have nothing to compare to nor any shocked reactions to prove such judgments correct. How long would she stay innocent, this unlikely Eve of crafted dead flesh brought to life again?

Perhaps it would all work out like the creature dreamed, perhaps they could have been happily lost in their own paradise. Unless, of course, one day her matured curiosity lured her out of the jungle and into the light…

A Tattered Page is a new in-store event that draws its inspiration from books. The first round focuses on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and you can find the shopping guide from the website. The creature skins with stitches are event exclusive by Fallen Gods Inc., sold for the event duration together with the non-exclusive unstitched cadaver skin, courtesy cadaver eyes and a mountain load of appliers for both genders.

The Tinderling Song

You might not notice them at first, walking in the woods. An oddly shaped old birch, some grass, perhaps a fallen tree. Not worth notice, not until it moves, stands up and stares you right in the face.

Did you wander too far, step too close to the fae waystones, breach their territory? Is it a guardian, a protector, …surely not a predator?

A moment of frozen panic later you realize the tinderling does not care that you are in the woods, no more than it objects to wintry creatures slumbering underneath the tree roots. 

Instead it invites you to the waystone: not to protect it, but to share its strength with the traveler, to join in the tinderling song of crackling frost and whispers in the wind.

Tinderlings are a new avatar release by Cerridwen’s Cauldron. They come in three different environmental looks, this particular one is boreal, the one that lives in arctic and boreal forests. They come with a handy HUD for better customizing your tinderling and are also available in tiny size for all the saplings out there.

Little Helper

I know it’s not yet December, that’s the whole point. Did you really think we bother checking on people then? Everyone expects us around that time. The point is to keep an eye on people around the year, not just for one month.

So, I hope you have tried your best to get to the right list this year. I assure you that the difference between rum bottles and pink oversized sweaters is very clear. The Little Helper Division always follows the rules. We know that if we don’t, there’ll be brown quilting in our future.

For your sake we better have very clear documents and proof on your general level of naughtiness. If we don’t you better hurry, dress in black and indulge in some gothic debaucheries right this moment. We have house appliances in storage if you don’t.

We don’t even have to check our list twice, because we happen to be sufficiently efficient the first time. You just watch out, because Sandy Claws is coming to town and Gothmas is just around the corner!

Even Papercranes Dream of Flying

Stuck in a mobile, twirling slowly around the same routine every moment of their lives from the creation to destruction: same motion, same string tying them in place with no escape, with no ability to escape.

Yet they feel the call of the sky, long for freedom so much they could taste it if they had mouths, know what it would feel like to spread their wings and fly. Know and dream.

For if they were not meant to fly, why would they have wings?

Drywood Dryad

Already a bit slower in movement than the younger tree-spirits, the drywood dryad has lived a long time. Time and seasons, sun and weather have taken their toll and sometimes she contemplates digging her roots deep and letting her mind wander until she forgets all but the sun on her skin and the slow pulse of earth in her veins.

It’s the flickering little specks of life that keep her awake, the fluttering sparks of energy, the visible, tangible, present parts of the cycle. Their calls for a mate, their dance that lasts less than a blink for a dryad, the ability to feel so keenly never ceases to intrigue her.

She has watched and marveled at their ancestors, and the ancestors of those ancestors. They awaken a steady sensation of curiosity in her: curiosity and empathy. How dreadful it must be to feel so acutely, how dreadful yet so wonderful. She knows she can never fully comprehend them, but she never lets that stop her from caring. Or watching, always watching: the guardian of brief, full lives of woodland creatures.

The Drywood skin with Sacred War markings by Fallen Gods Inc. is currently at half price in We Love Role-play event. There’s a male skin as well for all the possible wood-puns you could ever make. I wore the included PG-layers with the skin as well as the separately sold prim parts that form the dryad outfit. Goth Bunnies

They come in many sizes and shapes. Sometimes even without any visible ears or tail. They have white skin (or fur), gothic coloured hair and clothes and a penchant to clap their hands at vampires, instead of running away like more sensible rabbits would.

Who’s to say that bunnies cannot have tiny fangs as well? Or at least a preference for colours that are not pastels? Maybe there’s a secret bunny underground, opposing the damnable association to pink? Begone already, abomination unto the gods of colour!

One must remember though that no matter what colours a bunny wears or style she prefers, they cannot escape their true nature. You can cover them in black and blood-red, give them bad-ass weapons and observe them trying to fang-hiss while wiggling their noses, it’s no use: the cute is always there.

You cannot blame them, though. There are two defences a bunny can have: run fast or be too cute to kill. Have you ever tried to run in high heels or a gala dress? Did not think so.

Dwarfin Encounter

This is a story of a reporter elf planewalking to a realm where the dwarfins live to write about these industrious beings. The dwarfins are a young race and the only sapient one of their world, created by the God of Stone, Andronicus, to be the caretakers of the world.

Although Andronicus himself was imprisoned for the crime of creating life on his own and without the cooperation of the other gods, he still manages to send instructions to his beloved creations, who have finally broken out from the mountain they were originally enclosed in. The dwarfins found this unusual rock shape nearby the cave they broke out of and took it as a sign from Andronicus himself, now showing respect to it and praying to it, hoping the god will hear them and how much they miss being with him.

It seems that the dwarfin wizard was not at all appreciative of the planeswalking long-legs elf and transformed her into a more fitting size! She put aside the quill and papers and picked up an axe, here practising a sneer of attitude. Running with an axe should be left for dwarfins though, don’t try this home! If you happen to gain a dwarfin shape for a moment though, why not? Everyone should be a small stout person with an axe at least once in their lives!

Dwarfins have journeyed to Fantasy Faire for a visit and can be found in Lumenaria. The wizard and enchantress dwarfins are garbed in RFL colours and sold to benefit Relay For Life, similar to the new interactives: magic book and Andronicus Stone and the new dwarfin avatars, like Rinn Rockbeard in the last picture.

If you end up doing the Key of Hope Hunt, you can get the wizard and enchantress dwarfins as avatars, looking just like their normal dwarfin counterparts above. As for Rinn and her friend Rorek, the non-avatar dwarfin versions of them are for sale in the auction at the Faire as One of a Kind transferable dwarfins.
