The Daughter of the Depths and the Fallen Hedgehogs

There were many things that the sea-dwellers did for entertainment, many things that amused the daughters of the depths. There were races along the moon bridge, dancing with dolphins, weaving corals into new shapes, teaching whale whelps to sing. Many things that made them laugh, but surely this one had to be among the best.

“Faster paws, brave land critters, faster paws.” She tried not to laugh, watching the paws more used to dry ground splash furiously in the gently enchanted buoying water. “No nipping at your friend, Scourge of the Seas. Swimming first, terrorizing later. Every sharkling knows this.”

She had met ground creatures before, but usually they were lost and panicked in the sea, needing help to get back home. Not these two. They had played in the water fearlessly and introduced themselves as Fallen Hedgehogs. There had been some explanation about a contest that she did not fully understand, but she did not care. The tiny spiky ground creatures were delightful and she was more than happy to help them in their doomed attempt to become mer overnight. Surely stranger things had happened.

The Fallen Hedgehogs are of course wishing to participate in Fallen God & Goddess Contest 2017. This year brings the Decennial, the celebration for the ten years of Fallen Gods Inc. in Second Life. The market, the hunt and the celebration week of events will take place in October, but the contest is open already. The Legend of Fireflowers

The Legend of Fireflowers tells of a distant ocean-covered world where under glowing red skies rare flowers bloom once in every hundred cycles. They emerge from beneath the waves and reach toward the red twin suns, their colours changing rapidly as in a dance.

They sing, the Fireflowers, sing in waves of colour and light, silent sparks and blazing patterns. They sing until their song forms a shape: a living, breathing being, called to life by the quiet dance of colours, awakened by the pull of the red skies.

They are born aware, the Fireflowers, aware and ready to embark on their journey toward the strange lights in the sky, toward all the sparkling worlds in the infinite darkness.

Forgotten: City and Its Automatons

We lived on borrowed time, we automatons. Every tick of the clock brought us closer to the point when there would be no more rewinding, where our gears would cease to rotate, where our functions would simply stop.

We were unaware of this. Unlike humans, who know their bodies are temporary and fall into lethal disrepair in time, we thought we were built to last. That if we broke, we could be fixed. If we ran out of energy, we could be rewound.We trusted the City to always be there. We trusted there would always be the machinery and the systems to rewind our clockworks, to fix our broken limbs, to improve on the original design.

We trusted the light to dance in the air, the energy to flow, the magic that is machinery to carry us forward. We trusted the City would be there for us whenever we needed it.

The City is broken. The machinery that fixes us is unable to fix itself. The automatons designed to fix others wander aimlessly on the silent streets. With every passing cycle the City drifts, wavers, fades. Disconnected. Malfunctioning. Defective. Like us, Forgotten.

Forgotten City is closing down in September. If you have never visited this astonishing sim, do yourself a favor and go now. If you’re familiar with it, now is the last chance to revisit its magic. I do not know when exactly the sim will close down, but I felt the automatons had a word to share on the subject.

Skadi Speaks

It is time. The time of darkness lit only by the snow and the wild foxfires across the sky. The time to raise your glass to King Winter and welcome him in.

Let the winds blow and scathe, let the frost bite until all the humans see the wisdom of staying indoors and warming each other. Let the lights blind their eyes until they learn to love the soothing darkness.

Let the frost embrace and cover the world, pulling silence after it like a cloak. Let the snowflakes dance in the air, let the sound of their falling be the only audible thing.

Deep in the frozen silence, where no sound of life dares to emerge, Skadi speaks.

Gothmas by Gaslight opened today and it is held on two sims: Cursed and Sium. The outfit by Pale Empress, pendant by House of Rain, makeup by Beautiful Freak and the two first poses by {NanTra} are all available in the event, the booth slurls in the credits. The hair by Tableau Vivant is from the current round of Collabor88.

As for Skadi that the dress is named after: she’s a Norse goddess of winter, bow-hunting, skiing and mountains, sometimes theorized to be also connected to the darkness. I felt it was just right to let her speak for this one.

Dive deeper. It’s summer, it’s time to swim and play. Time to explore for the sake of exploration, to see new sights, try out new things, view visions never encountered before.

 Who says the water isn’t warm enough yet? The sunlight reaches all the way down during the summer nights and where it doesn’t reach, the magic of underwater growth lights the way.

Perhaps if you’re lucky enough in your watery visits you might pique an interest of someone ascending to visit you in return. Curiosity is a remarkable trait, goes both ways.

In the depths all the secrets are yours to find, all the mysteries within your reach. Dive deeper. It’s summer and anything can happen.

Just because I’ve wanted to make a mermaid post the whole spring and never had the time for it: now I did. Besides, frolicking in water is an inseparable part of summer. The only event item in the post is the hair & headdress of the first mermaid, they’re by ~Tableau Vivant~ and available in The Arcade.

Summer Sailing

I was tempted to call this post Sailor Cute, but I actually never watched Sailor Moon so my ability to make connections would have ended at the names. Regardless, this bikini by katat0nik is seriously the cutest sailor outfit ever while also being the most standout bikini of this summer. So much love.

My magical familiar companion is played by my meepet Lumi, modelling various funny Hair Fair gifts. The colour-change-scripted sailor hair is by Tameless, also a fair gift. Hair Fair is one of the best events for freebie-hunters, almost every booth has gifts to spoil us. My favourites tend to be the silly ones, it’s like a mini Crazy Hair Hunt.

The shed is a freebie by L2 Studio from the hunt at The Gallery Gift Shop. The decor is a mix from those hunt loots, the temporary closing sale at Concrete Flowers and this delicious drink by Poche from Okinawa Summer Festival.

I think in the end Sailor Cute decided that magical familiars do not need wigs to perform their sidekick duties, but I’d like to remind you that children do. Hair Fair is of course about several sims worth of new hair releases and gifts, but it is also about Wigs for Kids. By now the lag should have calmed down on the sims, so go buy all the things!

Corny IV

The fourth Zombie Popcorn Hunt has started! There’s 76 wonderful shops involved and if you join the group you can grab the list of landmarks and hints from the past notices. Begin here. My favorites are from the more strange, dark and quirky offerings of the hunt, but there was plenty of wonderful normal things for everyday use as well!

Obviously you have to have a zombie in a Zombie Popcorn Hunt. This one even -has- the said popcorn although I fear for her coordination. Might be tricksy to get the popcorn out from the small bag, especially with the ickle zombie already noming…

I found the Madworld Park during the hunt and immediately landmarked it to come back for pictures. The zombie girl is wearing an outfit by Severed Garden: armwarmers, armlets, bra, skirt, boots, mouthie and the body scar. I was extremely impressed by it, not only because of the quality but because the resizer script had also stretch options so you can resize it to certain directions only. ❤ It was also delightful to notice that they offered both alpha layer and invisiprims for shoes and the tattoo in underwear and tattoo layers. The skin is by Glam Affair, hair by MINA Hair, face blood by V.E.L Cosmetics, zombie stomach wound by Repulse (a part of the first prize of the hunt) and the pose is one of the zombie poses by Captivity Co.

Where you have zombies you also have zombie hunters, it’s the great circle of um… unlife. This particular zombie hunter got an accidental ganguro feel, but I kinda like it.

The hair is not a part of the ZP hunt, it’s by SyDS from the Oh My Stars – April Showers Hunt. The outfit is my second favorite from the hunt, it’s a bloody kimono by Sassy Kitty Designs. Not that you could possibly call that a kimono, except in a very particular anime perhaps. It doesn’t even pretend to have a skirt part by adding a tiny prim. I sort of approve, I hate the teeny tiny prims that will not look good no matter how you set them to fake skirtness. Might as well skip them completely! The outfit comes with a clean version as well and includes shoes, ripped leggings and the chopstick hair pins. The huge three-bladed scythe is by J.I.N.X. and it’s absolutely necessary for a good zombie hunt. The skin is by Filthy and the body tattoo by Arnadi. The spider & web mouthie (what little you can see of it) is by EY:NO and the pose is by Diesel Works.

There’s always some prizes that go into the crazy entertainment of popcorn, stripes and carnival. For this shot I left the park, set out an old hunt prize house by Zacca to work as the background and made a scene with some of the furniture gifts.

The beautiful posing chair is by Tableau Vivant, the black-and-white curtains are by MudHoney and the rest of the bloody couch set is by Noctis. The carnie doll herself has a skin by Nuuna’s Skins, tattoo by Para Designs, top by ANCAYI and socks, gloves and panties by MUKA. The sneakers are by BC322, voodoo doll backpack by Beauty Killer and the tiny tophat by LaGyo. She’s noming a brain munchie by Virtual Insanity and has dropped a movie freak doll by Pinkmare’s House on the floor, although I have a feeling that the doll might start shambling off on her own any moment now. The hair is an old group gift by Curious Kitties and not a part of the hunt. The eyes of all the three girls are by Repulse.

The last day of the hunt is June 15th so you have still a couple of weeks to hunt for popcorn. Get out there and have fun!
